What are advantages of The University of Liverpool in general?
Welcome to the University of Liverpool forum: where prospective and current students can discuss anything about Liverpool Uni.

Re: What are advantages of The University of Liverpool in general?
The city is awesome! I'm from Denmark and have travelled all over the world, but I've never found the same level of friendlyness and open minded people as in Liverpool, I feel totally at home there.
Liverpool has the largest number of theatres and museums outside of London, and so many different pubs, clubs and bars, that there's something for everyone!
I can't say whether or not Liverpool Uni is better than other Unis, because I'm only starting there myself this year, but I do think the staff are very friendly and down to earth, and the current students seems to be having a blast, so I'm guessing it's pretty good :-)
If you can, get to an Open Day, or spend a day/night in the city, to get a feel of it, it really is great! -

NOT SUBJECT/COURSE SPECIFIC
What about the city too, what is good about the city?
I worked in liverpool before I went back to uni... It's a really great city and I had a lot of fun being there. -

Gonna try and support my city here

I've lived in Liverpool all my life and have applied to the uni for this September. I'll start off by saying everything Ida said is completely true - we are a great bunch of people. We are friendly and very down to earth - never take ourselves too seriously. We have a very welcoming nature and a great sense of humour. I can't speak for the millions that live here and I'm by no means saying that this is the 'greatest city on earth' or anything like that, but what i will say is that alot of people that i know who come from outside of L'pool are always pleasantly surprised. There are alot of stereotypes associated with the city but I'm pretty sure you'll love the scouse sense of humour =))
Then there's the cultural side too - We are a fascinating city. The new lives with the old
We're not just famous for the football or the music but we have some wonderful venues too. We're a well known city overseas aswell - I'm sure or i hope if you came you'd have a great experience.
Loads of people in my year who are going away for uni this year have all said the same thing too - if they didn't already live here, they would have applied. The reasons they're going are either because of the courses or they're tired of being with mum and dad
Its a cracking city, I really hope you come

Is Liverpool a deprived area to live in? -

Not at all
It's an old article but I know people that have the idea that Liverpool remains like this and won't change. I was considering studying at the University of Liverpool but I don't want to live in an area where it is described as 'deprived'. -
Re: What are advantages of The University of Liverpool in general?I understand - if a city that i was considering moving to was described using a derogative term i'd think twice about moving there too. All i can say is that its nonsense - its a large city and like so many others there are poorer areas of the city than others. But we are by no means 'deprived.'(Original post by Fee95)

Liverpool's sick of being labelled
the stereotypes we gained in the 80s are completely outdated.

Re: What are advantages of The University of Liverpool in general?
For me personally it would probably be a combination of the historical sites (the docks, museums, liver buildings - the 'old' part of Liverpool) and scenery around that area, i've always loved that part of Liverpool

The second would be the camararderie between everyone; it's easy to feel at home here
It's a great city - has a great atmosphere, great people. Any time of the year is a good time to visit, i find that there is always something going on.
What i love aswell is you have areas that are always buzzing and then other areas that are quite low key. Although it's renound for being a student city it accommodates for everyone. The sites are wonderful - something cosy about old, Victorian buildings
You'll probably find though that if you ask someone else they'll give you a different reason. I know the night life is popular with people but to be honest that's never really been my thing =p
