I've been reading Ouran High School Host Club and Vampire Knight and I really enjoy them. I only came across them by chance: my sister had watched the anime versions and so we both bought a manga volume and it carried on from there.

Sorry if I sound inexperienced, I'm just not sure where to go from here!
Can anyone recommend another manga series I might enjoy?

    Thanks very much
Akira, Parasyte, Battle Royale, Chobits, Homunculus, Ghost in the Shell, Uzumaki and Left Hand of God, Right Hand of the Devil are variously either light-heartedly whimsical or profoundly disturbing, and encompass a wide array of themes, if you're interested.

If you like Vampire Knight and Ouran High School Host Club, I think you could try some other shojo manga.
Fruits Basket comes to mind - It's quite funny, and very touching, though I haven't read the whole thing.
Also, you could try Princess Jellyfish (Kuragehime) which is also very sweet and funny. I've only seen the anime, which is great, but I heard the manga is better
Dengeki Daisy is another nice shojo too

I just googled K-On! and I really like the look of it! I'm a musician so the fact that it is about musicians is really appealing! :P
Hmm, trying to think of other music mangas:

Beck - Loved this manga! Its also completed so you get to actually have a conclusion as well, highly highly recommend! This one is tended to be rock and roll band based.

Piano no mori - Another brilliant music manga. As the name suggests piano based, has about 100 chapters out right now and is still ongoing.

Nodame Cantabile - This one is more classical based but a good read

Detroit Metal City - Comedy based manga on a guy who wants to be a uplifting musician but instead performs in a heavy metal band singing about death and destruction. Funny and a nice variation to the classical type music mangas

There are a few others but the ones above are my favorites from the music sub-genre

    Azumanga Daioh-comedy/school life
    Kyoukai Kara Maou
GE-Good Ending-about dating, romance...the usual shoujo manga stuff...
    Yakitate!!Japan-comedy,about bread-baking
    Shinrei Tantei Yakumo-detective/mystery
    1/2 Prince-comedy, about MMORPGs
    Silver Spoon

These are all pretty lighthearted mangas, save the third and fifth. Hope you like these!

Bleach is ace and in its final Arc which has just recently (today) gotten better. It's for shonen crazy kids who love POWER LEVELS!

Naruto is still dragging until today tobi's mask got smashed which is still less interesting than any scenario in before the time skip.

    One Piece is tl;dr.

Beserk is dark fantasy, kinda like a manga for the video game demons souls.

Some say Gintama but the anime trumps the manga.

You could take a step back in time and read Rurouni Kenshin for some samurai action.

Love Hina actually entertained me, a statement i'd never say to anybody irl. However the anime outshines the manga.

Based on Ouran and VK, I'd recommend a couple... (this is my predominant genre preference XD)

    Kimi Ni Todoke
    Hana Kimi
    Koukou Debut
Penguin Revolution (loved this especially for the artwork. She draws beautifully!)
    Kaichou Wa Maid-sama
Gokuraku Seishun Hockey Club (this is hilarious. Sort of Ouran-ish with the whole poor girl stumbled upon a group of rich kids. Change the Host club into a hockey club. You have the twins, potential boyfriend and the smart kid too)

    For something a little different:
Gintama (my ultimate favourite anime, and the manga's pretty good too.)
    Kuro****suji
Bleach (seems typical to recommend shounen manga, but you have to have a taste of them. )
