Re: What are the best overall laptop brands?I have no idea I'm afraid, I'm hardly the laptop expert(Original post by ...mo...)
I have have a Toshiba and have had mixed thoughts. To start of with it was great. One day I got the dreaded blue screen!!! Since then there have been overheating problems with the fan going of almost as soon as I switch it on. I think it needs replacing but not with another Toshiba though. This one is around 3.5kg. What lighter options are possible?
I think I'm going to buy a desktop / build a custom PC before uni next year - can't afford my laptop to be unreliable halfway through a tight project deadline..
but I'll probably fix this laptop up and do a complete factory reset, so it's old but good as new, then hopefully I can get a few more years out of it since I won't be using it as intensively (ie all gaming and high-spec stuff I'll do on my desktop, just using the laptop for revision / word docs and portability) -
Re: What are the best overall laptop brands?
I had a vaio and currently have an acer, they were both good and pricing was not extortionate except overheating was/is an issue if you run demanding software. Apples are good as well except they are terribly over priced, next step alienware
(dell gaming range) Id recommend it to anyone looking at macbook priced products as the specs justify the price more and they have a higher cool factor imo

Mac's can http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-17623422, they do have anti-virus software for sale for them.(Original post by ellasmith)
If you have the budget, i'd definitely recommend a mac, they last forever and don't get viruses.
If you don't, sony vaios are good.
Alienware is a rip off to be fair, overpriced like Apple, they are a brand name, difference is Apple's software and OS are worth it for some, whereas stay away from Alienware(Original post by Glitch96)

Re: What are the best overall laptop brands?I never really looked into apple's software properly, all i saw was that they were charging £1,500 for a 15" system with 4GB ram and 512MB graphics, looking at the alienware, you could have 16GB ram and a 2GB graphics card in a 17" chassis (of which apple discontinued) for that much, it must be a damn good OS(Original post by Iqbal007)

Re: What are the best overall laptop brands? The specs are a major bump in price yes, but the OS is good for things like video editing, etc(Original post by Glitch96)

With Apple you pay a premium for the way it looks and it's brand...........which is exactly the same with Alienware you do pay a premium but not as much as Apple, thats why people buy Apple the name, OS or design.
If you went PCspecialist you would get more for your money than Alienware or from MSI or Asus to be fair. -
