Did you apply through apprenticeship.go.uk? If so, from my experience, it takes ages to even land an interview. I once applied for one which was due to expire in 7 days, it took them a month after to ask to come for an interview. Just be patient I guess, if you call them, they will take it one of two ways, you are keen to find out if you've got the job or not or, you are really annoying and preventing them from doing their job.

Regarding the hours, that will be up to your employer, best thing to do is have a chat with him, should you land the job, explain the situation, if you are lucky he may offer you more than the the minimum wage. I know I started mine on £120 p/w. That alone covered my travel for the month and my phone bill. I worked 3 and half days a week with one day at college.
    Thanks
I applied through my boroughs website & had to go to my local college in order to sign up & take maths and English tests.
£120 would be good and I'm surrounded by tons of local schools so hopefully I'll get one at least 15 mins away.
I'm just keen to start, its horrible not working & having a routine.
You also reminded me to go onto apprenticeship.org.uk to check for more.
    I won't call them. I don't want to be a pest!

i previously turned my nose up at studying but I'll be happy to go back to college & meet some hopefully decent people. Lol.
Plus, the college is 2mins from my house
    One can't complain.!!

Good luck, seeing as it's a college, new school year is just round the corner so, I should not think you will have to wait for too long.

I know what you mean, before I landed my current job, I had about two months when I had nothing to do. Just spent all day jogging, applying on-line, going to the odd interviews. Quite a miserable time.

It's funny, at first I thought having nothing to do would do me some good but, I just felt so out of place. Hope you hear something soon. Fingers crossed.

Exactly this. It took them like two months to land me an interview, they said I got the job but it'll be in another months time. Be patient!

Waiting for them to contact you must feel like crap I bet. Guess I'm lucky, my place needed someone urgently, I actually started the day after my Interview.

Yeah it is! So glad I got my job, though. Two years in the Business Sector with NVQ level Two and Three will be extremely good!

You can Survive, I am too on an Apprenticeship and I get around £100 p.w.

I pay my parents rent about £60-£80 p.m, which by the way with the amount I eat and use its a hell of a lot cheaper , I also have a car, Peugeot 106. Which thankfully is good on fuel but then I have to pay for the fuel as well. My workplace is about 11 miles away from home and I go 5 days a week usually spend about £25-£30 pound on fuel p.w (approximately £120 p.m)!! I also pay for my phone contract which is only £25 a month but it all adds up.

You can survive on an apprenticeship wage, it is tough i am not going to lie! But I did it, just remember whats at the end and the reward you will get. Believe me it is do-able, I am over half way through my apprenticeship now so I have survived for that long can even pay for Christmas .

    Hope this helps you.

    I'm currently hating my apprenticeship.

Been here 6 months by the way.

I am the same, I don't really enjoy mine but at the moment Im earning so that's all I can ask for.

I am 18 and I am trying to do exactly the same! Get a full time job with higher pay, I get by on this wage but I wouldnt mind a little comfort to add on.

Been here 7 Months got 5 left to go!

I'm currently on an IT User Level 2 and then can progress to 3 if i choose to, which i absolutely will not be doing.

There's nothing really round here in terms of full time employement i can see myself doing and enjoying, other then working in like Game/Gamestation.. but it's impossible to land a job there these days.

I can't say there is nothing to do around here that I wouldn't enjoy because there is but it is hard to get. Would prefer something more to do with Design or Engineering (Both if I am lucky!) But then it is hard to land a job anywhere nowadays all I am bothered about is earning money at the moment, hopefully the job I want will come in good time but not looking forward to it possibly being another apprenticeship!

It's difficult. I'm almost finishing my L2. Might be getting onto L3 so it's good! It's been a bit of a struggle financially, but the qualifications are worth it to go further in that field and to get a better paid job.

Financially it is a struggle, especially when you pay board, petrol money, insurance and a phone bill! but I agree it is worth it if you want to move further in the field.

Definitely. I'll be finishing my Level 2 in January, applying for University at the moment (I went to College prior to my Apprenticeship). Experience, NVQ and Technical Certificate can provide to be extremely useful for the future if the job market is still as dull as it is at the moment.
