Speech & Language Therapy at Reading
Hello, my Nan recently had a stroke and I've since been interested in doing a course in Speech and Language therapy after learning from my Nan's treatment what Speech and Language therapists do.
I am due to start an access course in September, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Sociology. If I were to get the highest grade on my access course and get some work experience working on a stroke (or similar) ward beforehand, does anybody know if it's likely that I'd get accepted onto this course? -

It says they do consider access courses but it also lists GCSEs in English Language, Maths and a science subject preferably at grade B as also required. I have a B in GCSE English, C in GCSE Maths and C, C in my double award Science GCSE. Bit worried!! -
Re: Speech & Language Therapy at ReadingI'm due to start this course in October and I know someone else who has gained a place via an access course... I'm not sure what how they did at GCSE though or whether it's relevant, so I highly recommend you simply email the university and ask about your chances. They're really friendly(Original post by hannabeth)

Re: Speech & Language Therapy at Reading
I am completing an Access course this year in 'Healthcare' and have been accepted into Reading, although I do need to obtain a high number of Distinctions in order to prove that I am intellectual enough(!)
I had experience working with children with disabilities which definitely helped. I doubt I would have got in otherwise.
So yes, Reading does accept Access students, but you do need to show that you are committed.
As for your GCSEs, I think that as long as you have grades A*-C in Maths and English you are okay.
If I were you I would write to the Clinical Language Sciences department and ask them directly, just to be sure.
