    Looking for a new laptop
    Hi,

So I'm looking for a new laptop since my other one is slowly dying on me! I've just lost all my data from that since my harddrive was damaged a lot apparently. So I've had windows vista restored on it but I'd rather not take the chance and get a new laptop since this has actually happened to me before!

My price range is max £500. I really don't want to go above that since I'm not paying for it my parents are and I really don't want to spend a lot on it!!

My old laptop has lasted me 3 and a half years now... And I'm just about to start 3rd year of uni and have another 3 years to go yet so would like one that would last me through these 3 years and longer hopefully!

I'd just be using it for the basics: Internet surfing, iplayer, YouTube etc, uni work, watching films, editing home videos etc.
I'm a chemistry student so I use a lot of chemistry software aswell and my old laptop was very lagging using it so I would need something that would be able to handle it. Also I don't play games apart from the Sims. That's the only game that I actually play.

    So any suggestions??

Also I want something like a Sony vaio or HP something that is well known and will last a while. And it needs to look good aswell :P

Any laptop with i3, etc processor will play Sims fine.

What kind of editing, serious amount?
Because you can get an i5 under £500, depends on how much ram and storage you need.

Nah not a serious amount, just home videos really.

Well I'm hoping for quite a lot of storage! My laptop had 160GB but I'd prefer to have way more space than that! Also it was 1GB RAM again would preferably like to have a lot more than that aswell.

I would 2nd a Lenovo. If not I think Samsung make fairly reliable laptops but its all personal opinion. I would check out reviews online and go for something that has the right specs for you.

They haven't released the i3 3rd generation yet for desktops, so it won't come out for laptops for a while.
They released i5 and i7 3rd gen at the beginning of the year after a while the manufacturers of laptops put them in after they got rid of some of their stock though it's not all out on those laptops yet.

Why can't you just wait a bit

Ah okay. Well I'm waiting till I go back to uni first before I get one so that's 2 months away haha. But I'd rather use a big screen laptop rather than my 10' netbook!

    What about these ones:

    http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/toshiba...32344-pdt.html

    http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/sony-vp...84760-pdt.html

    http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/samsung...19697-pdt.html

    Any of them any good??

P.S. currys has a sale on now.. so would like to get it now instead of waiting!
The first 3 are completely overpriced in my opinion for the specs, the last one does look good, though you good pick up a similar Lenovo one with the same specs for about £50 less.

Yes of course it is, well known.
It depends on each individual, if it doesn't have defects and you treat it well than it certainly should.
You should also consider a cooling pad for keep good ventilation

    http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Lenovo_Z580_1206320.html look at that
