Re: First thing you think of when you hear the words 'Shariah Law'Well I'm a Muslim myself and I'm not trolling. There was a discussion on BBC Asian Network yesterday on whether there is a place for Shariah Law in the UK. It was interesting to hear a representative from the Shariah Council speak to other callers who rang in. The majority said no, but it appeared that they didn't really know what Shariah Law was.(Original post by Junaid96)

It appears a lot of think about the criminal side to the law instantly and think of killings ... but these can only be implemented by a Muslim government, which we don't have in the UK.
It was also interesting to hear that non-Muslims use shariah low to in the UK because it's faster, cheaper and representatives spend more time with clients in comparison to UK law.
I found out yesterday from the representative that Shariah Law in the UK does not run in parallel with UK law, it runs under it. -

Re: First thing you think of when you hear the words 'Shariah Law'Do I really need to elaborate? People living under Sharia Law have no rights because they are forced to adhere to a religion they may not even believe in. Look at countries like Saudi Arabia, I can think of few places to live that would be more horrible. Especially if you're a woman. It's nothing I have personally against Islam, I'd feel the same about any other religious laws, but it's evil forcing people to live like that. And don't claim that the people have rights because they don't, we all know it.
