So you object to abortion after a heartbeat/ brain has formed?

This was posted from The Student Room's iPhone/iPad App
After a brain has fully formed, yes. A heartbeat is merely a muscle used for supplying the body with energy and hormones. All living things use energy. Trees are just as alive as a foetus without a nervous system.

In my opinion, life begins (and as such, they become people) when they can survive independently of the mother's body, so around 23/24 weeks. Before that, they are a human-shaped ball of cells - in my opinion.
That isn't a particularly good way to defend abortion as the window for abortion gets smaller and smaller as medicine advances. In a decade a 3 month old fetus may be viable via artificial incubators.

This essentially means that all the unborn humans we have aborted that were over 3 months old were, for all intents and purposes, murdered as it turns out that they were viable after all. If we have to question whether we're killing humans or not - we should, by default, not kill the said subjects because that way we guarantee that we are not murdering innocent people.

Thirdly, science doesn't really care about your opinion. Embryologists have done their job and they have concluded that conception is the birth of a new, unique human specimen. Just open any embryology textbook and you'll see. Sure, you can argue that to you they're just clumps of cells - but keep this in mind: You can't laugh at the people who deny evolution and believe in a geocentric worldview. Why? Because you are one them - you dismiss scientific facts for the sake of your own personal agenda and ideology.

By stating that in your opinion life begins at X, you've turned a scientific, factual question into an assesment question.

How do you know that a bundle of cells isn't a someone?
I totally agree with the girl in the video! Abortion is so wrong. Every bundle of cells is potential life. Which is why I think male masturbation should be made illegal.

And when I go to places of overpopulation with starvation and poverty and subsequent crime I think man, oh do I feel so sad at the thought of potential cells ready to contribute to this being not given the opportunity. Sad, sad little cells.

I waited to have sex until I was ready to have a child. We still use protection, which hasn't let us down. We don't particularly want a child right now, but if it happens we will grin and bare it because we put it there, and it's not right that it gets flushed because we want an easier life. Your argument is retarded either way. Who am I, or you, to say that it's morally right or wrong for a woman to carry a baby to term and when it's born drives a stake through it's heart?
My argument isn't retarded it's just you're a narcissist and can't seem to comprehend that not everyone is like you. You don't play a part in the life of any woman who has been made to make that decision and so you can't choose whether her decision is moral or not. (Thats the point I was making retard that YOU can't make that choice - my argument is that we're are not in a position to judge or make her choice because we're not her.)

Grin and bear it? Yeah right you sound like an arrogant middle class prick. What to you would seem like the 'easy' way out is for many women the only way out.

Like I said, don't get into it in the first place? You're right, not everyone is like me. But they should be. People say the world would boring, I just happen to think there would be a lot less people like you about which would be win. I have played a part in the life of many women who have made that choice one way or another, uhoh for your poor argument. Calling me a retard so many times? Wow, I really got to you didn't I. Sorry for offending you so much by suggesting you close your legs until you're ready to let a baby out of them

You've never murdered anyone, or known anyone who has, does that mean you can't decide whether murder is moral or not? Your argument is so full of fail, I think it best you definitely keep your legs closed permanently.

That video reminded me of a load of anti-abortion videos i was shown in R.E lessons at my Catholic secondary school when i was about 14, we didn't learn anything pro-choice at all. I remember my teacher giving graphic details about how they sometimes have to crush the skull of the baby (And she always said baby, never fetus.) The idea that she's still teaches these lessons makes me cringe when i think about it.

Abortion, like most things in medicine can and will have side effects and mental and physical issues that can arise from it but it has to be available. People wont suddenly stop trying to get rid of a pregnancy simply because the law says they have to stick with it, there will just be illegal ones. 'Backstreet' abortion clinics should be what people want to stop from happening again.

Your sarcasm is wasted on me, I don't care for it. And I don't think your points are valid.

You would argue that abortion is justified because of overpopulation/crime etc. This is completely unfair to the foetus. Why don't the people weigh these up before actually making a baby?

I guess because killing a foetus is not the same as killing another human being for many people.

Indeed I agree with you. The states first duty is to protect life. It cannot do this with the legalised murder of young babies
There is no law to protect life before it is a life.
And life in the UK is after birth.

i.e. No adoption law or care proceedings can be applied before a 'child' is born. Even if a mother is knowingly neglecting her baby no law can be applied to prevent that happening.

If you read the article the care proceedings were undertaken before it was born.

Incidentally the fact you can't get an abortion after a certain week of pregnancy (24?) means that there are protections for an unborn child.
