Where does the MLS rank now?
Good week with the MLS All Stars avoiding a third consecutive spanking, some positive comments from Spurs players & obviously the now confirmed (subject to Visa related things) Cahill signing.
With the Chinese league getting a bit of spending power, how do we rate it in comparison to other emerging leagues - seeing as there is always a bit of hostility from European fans!?

Re: Where does the MLS rank now?
Soccer is competing with the established sports of NFL, Baseball and Basketball so I think there's a glass ceiling on how far it can penetrate into US society. I don't think China has as many established national sports so football would seem to me more promising there as well as their economic development and massive population.

Re: Where does the MLS rank now?
MLS is a laughing stock. I had a season ticket at Toronto FC for four years and not once did I see a good game of football, it doesn't even equate to the conference. Henry & Beckham can walk around and do nothing every game, it's just their final paychecks. Also, the fans are awful, one stepover and they think a player is the next coming of Jesus.

Look at the reaction when Darren Huckerby joined the MLS.
I am a Northern League standard player. Yet i honestly think i could hold my own in most MLS games i see. -

Re: Where does the MLS rank now?
I like the structure the Americans have in place to nurture home-grown talent in many different sports. The competitive nature and facilities of athletics at high school and college level is top-notch. Although the Americans have unearthed some gems like Clint Dempsey (The reason Fulham do better than they should) and Claudio Reyna, the problem is that the NFL and NBA will remain the priority. The MLS itself will never be as good as the former two and will probably continue as it does for the foreseeable future. Unearthing a few good players, many mediocre ones and having the reputation of the graveyard for aging European footballers.

Re: Where does the MLS rank now?
MLS has mass potential to become a world leader in Football within 20-30 years as the money is there, the stadium's are there and the culture will support the game especially with a youth development scheme that seems to be working incredibly well.
For me the key to the MLS would be a break through into the Copa Libertadores the U.S Soccer Association should really try to break through into this market as it would lead to a spillage of great prospects coming from South America into the MLS as well as a unique, dynamic and attractive proposition for Europe's finest footballers.
