Yeah the documentary was pretty sad, those boys were messed up. But tbh one of their 'homemade videos' showed them screaming at the camera, it was as though they were trying so hard to be 'evil' and come across as messed up. They just wanted to be remember, and sadly it worked : ((Original post by JamalAhmed)
I think I am.

Your post seems to be riddle with insincerity
Yet, for some, the news hit them hard. Get some sensitivity.
For those who are stupid: I'm obviously not being serious

Re: Worst news in your life?
Worst news for me = my Mum ringing to tell me that my Dad had died
Worst Headline = GOTCHA for those that are not old enough .. the SUN newspaper celebrated the death of Argentinian men in a manner that made me ashamed to be British
Disaster-wise
Herald of Free Enterprise = my son was only a month old and, as a new mother my understanding of potential loss was magnified
Hungerford = later the same year, this was new to the Uk and terrifying
Dunblane = as a mother and a teacher this was so frightening
7/7 = My husband works in London and I spent some time in stunned fear
Whilst other events may have killed more or had more impact on world attitudes and events I think that they were often too far away to really feel the fear ... I remember sitting for hours watching the 9/11 news coverage and it seemed so far away
I tend to react later ... when the names are released and the victims become people -

Re: Worst news in your life?
Personally, finding out that a very close family member was diagnosed with a potentially life threatening illness.
Or coming home from holiday to find our house has been robbed.
Sure, 9/11 and 7/7 were terrible, but it didn't affect me personally so it's hard to have the same emotional attachment. -
Re: Worst news in your life?I was actually going to waltz in and bust a joke not dissimilar to yours(Original post by Cephalus)
lool I know I did laugh when you said it =] I just thought I'd lighten the mood somewhat (and to add I actually love DH, my life really isn't complete without Wisteria Lane =D). Some people just get too serious on TSR
...but then I saw you did it first so I had to adapt
This takes me back to Facebook when I dedicated a whole status about my dismay that the cameras will not be rolling down Wisteria Lane; needless to say, I got hate! Blimey, don't I know it -_-

Re: Worst news in your life?
Events such as 7/7 and suicide bombings elsewhere saddened me greatly but I found that they never got me extremely upset to the point of tears. That feat is reserved for personal news such as the death of my Grandmother or my aunt- I absolutely adored her and she passed away when she I was around 7.

Re: Worst news in your life?
Worst news for me - learning about both my parents' childhoods, their marriage and my father's biological family background; things I never wished to hear and will probably never forget or even fully comprehend. Also hearing my classmate's mother had commited suicide.
Worst "news" news - the helicopter crash not far from Aberdeen 2/3 years ago when all on board died, Dunblane, when they realised Sarah Payne had been murdered, Diana dying .. -
Re: Worst news in your life?
The summer riots is up there with the worst, but personally I found it more embarrassingly disgraceful than anything else.
And like everyone else, I was pretty young during 9/11 so couldn't really process to the extent how devastating it was like i can now. But that doesn't mean I didn't think it was a big deal. 7/7 wasn't as 'big' of an event objectively speaking, but because of the recency effect (2005 compared to 2001) and considering how close it was to home I would rank it almost as bad as 9/11.
I did agree with your point initially but when I reread the OP I saw why you are wrong. Everyone seems to be forgetting that the OP did specifically say the worst news headline you've ever heard, not just the worst news in general.(Original post by llessur123)
This is going to sound awful, whilst I realise those kind of things are sad, they don't personally affect me and are far from the worst news I could hear. I've had a relatively good life so probably the news that my knee would always cause me problems after I dislocated it for the second time. As far as things go I'm quite thankful that is the worst I've heard.
Also, Madeline McCann was one of thousands of children that go missing every year, the only difference is that we heard about it. For instance, here are a few, have you ever heard of them?

If the OP changed the thread title maybe it could help stop the confusion.Last edited by Ice Constricter; 28-07-2012 at 19:51. -
Re: Worst news in your life?
9/11 the way the 2nd plane was captured going into the tower...what people must have been going through is unimaginable
I remember even my mum thinking this can't be right, it was like a horror film
then 7/7, when it was reported first as a suspected gas explosion or something and I just though immediately it was more serious and it really scared me
I also remember although not shocking in the same way as the others, when princess Diana died, I was watching cartoons and there was a notice at the bottom of the screen saying stick the new on a serious incident had occurred or someting (was very young so can't really remember!) -
Re: Worst news in your life?Good point. Why is it that 99% of the things we hear on the news is negative?(Original post by Enigma7)
Everything in the News is bad... Impossible to choose the worst.
Think I already got an answer. Bad news makes better, more interesting headlines.
Compare "employment increasing by 20% every year" to "unemployment increases by 20% every year".
The latter gives us something to all complain about. The only exception is hearing extremely good news like potential cures for life threatening diseases. And don't forget the lottery lol, "elderly couple win £20 million in lotto rollover".
Everyone just thinks lucky bastards.
