Failed driving test for the fourth time.
Hi guys,
Basically I just got back from failing my driving test for the fourth time.
I'm extremely annoyed that four tests down I'm still struggling to pass.
I failed this time with 2 serious and 8 minors.
I've taken around 70 lessons over 18 months, and passed my theory in Decemember 2010.
So now I've literally got under five months to pass.
I could really do with some inspiration and some success stories, I feel like such a failure. It's beyond me.
I'm always such a bag of nerves before my test.
The more I try to calm myself down,
the more worked up I get knowing that I'm literally screaming out for a pass.
Help guys.

Re: Failed driving test for the fourth time.
I passed my driving test on the forth atempt. The best advice I would give you is to just keep persevering and keep trying until you do pass as honestly its worth in the end, providing you have the finances to do so of course. It's incredibly disheartening after failing so many times but you simply have to keep trying. In my opinion passing actually has little to do with ability and is mainly about luck, eg the examiner you have, the route etc and how you deal with nerves and if you can show you are confident. I have know some terrible drivers who have passed first time simply because they are confident and able to not let the test situation affect their driving. Just keep trying and you will pass. Just the fact that your instructor has entered you shows that you have the ability to pass the test, believe that, drive with confidence and you will pass.

Re: Failed driving test for the fourth time.Hi,(Original post by TheWorldEndsWithMe)
What were the serious faults? Are they the same every time?
A little more info could go a long way.
My serious faults were steering, I apparently kept too far to the left of the road at times, and at one point I accidentally clipped the kerb.
Second serious was for after a set of traffic lights, I was suppose to give way to cars joining from another road merging onto the road I was going to go onto. However, instead of giving way and breaking at the meeting point, I perused and never gave way.
My other serious have been different,
1 Messing up my turn in the road.
2 Speed.
3 Messing up a round about (using the wrong lane).
4 Overtaking a bus. -

Re: Failed driving test for the fourth time. They all seem like pretty serious faults to me, and things you do not want to be doing when you're on the road on your own.(Original post by Escape...)

I know its annoying, but if you're so nervous, and make such mistakes, then it is for the best that you're not a qualified driver just yet, however it doesn't mean you won't get there.
By the sounds of it you should think about changing instructors if you've had 70 hours of lessons. You don't say who you're with, but in my experience i think independent instructors (as opposed to BSM etc), where you see the same person each week, are the best, as they get to know you and your strengths/weaknesses.
You will pass eventually, and until then try and restore your confidence. -
Re: Failed driving test for the fourth time.
Yeah I wouldn't be down, I really agree its dependent on the day, examiner and whole situation had three tests till i passed, and im still not some majorly great or confident driver, it was just holding in nerves for 40 mins of calm driving, ur gonna do it don't worry!

My test is next Fri and quite worried about it...well as mentioned u could try a different instructor or try and work on the faults u have made...overtaking a bus isn't always a serious fault (I've been told to go for it if the bus isn't trying to pull out and the road ahead is clear) and what I can suggest about roundabouts is to learn the ones around the area of your test so u know the road layouts and stuff. Good luck!

Re: Failed driving test for the fourth time.
I passed on my fifth go. I changed my instructor after my fourth attempt, and thankfully passed
. I booked my test on a Saturday morning so there were no cars on the road, I found that made me less nervous so I didn't make any silly mistakes. Just keep at it and ask your instructor to do a kind of mock driving test so you can see where your problems are.
