Eugh. So much rage in my house during the road race. That strategy was completely ineffective and it cost us a medal. Embarrassing in our home country just after Wiggins won the Tour de France. Which could also be an excuse I suppose. Missed the gymnastics because I had a driving lesson! Caught the end though, loved it.

What happened in the archery? I missed that too. Looked like we weren't doing too well against Ukraine though.

EDIT: S***. Idiot moment. God knows why I put Cavendish originally when I clearly meant Wiggins. Sorry everyone! So stupid.

I never expected Cav to win really, though I wanted him to. It wasn't so much the size of the breakaway that GB let get away, it was the people in it that was the problem. Too many good riders. Vinokourov, Uran, Cancellera, Sanchez, Kreuziger and Gilbert are all too good to let get away but that's how the race was always going to be. Olympic road races rarely end in a bunch sprint.

Apparently some American commentators think that Isambard Brunel (guy with the cigar during the revolution bit) was supposed to be Abraham Lincoln.....
Thats not surprising. The guy looked nothing like Brunel!!! (And I am from Swindon where Brunel is well known; I know what the guy looked like!!)

anyone see Jill Douglas' interview? Very disrespectful, hardly a congratulations. Instead she just told the guy that it 'wasn't what the British public wanted' (I wanted to see a good race actually Jill and that's what i got...) and then asked him questions about GB/Cav as if he should care - the man has just won gold! I hope we're a bit more magnanimous in future events and can congratulate people of other countries for winning/being better than GB instead of trawling over why we didn't win and how we're so disappointed.

    :sigh:

I think we lost in the archery as well :ahee: Looking like Team GB will get no medals today.

    She's a silly cow.

The winner obviously didn't want to talk to her (who would tbh), hence his walking off halfway through the interview :ahee:

If I was him I'd be like 'Mark who?', her face would have been a picture.

    Haha

Feel really sorry for Cav though, ineffective tactics/no help from those pesky Germans let us down on the day I think. Loved his jab at the IOC and the French as well

Cavendish did not win the tour de france. Also the tactics were spot on GB had to chase the breakaway to catch it so that it would end in a bunch sprint. However not enough teams shared the same goal; as a result after 250km the 4 GB domestiques were spent. Unlike continental races the teams are substantially smaller which only makes it harder to chase a breakaway. There was no more they could do, they cant stop breakaways forming.

Yeah, those and the other track races are what makes the Olympics for me. Although I really like watching the swimming as well.
Yeah general athletics does it for me with a soft spot for swimming

Not really. Cycling, Swimming, Rowing etc are all pretty exciting to watch. Then you've got 400, 800, 1500 etc. Loads of exciting events.
    Each to their own

Quiet and subdued. After the bikers flashed past Richmond Park a large number of the crowd walked down to a pub close to Richmond Gate to watch the rest of the race unfold. There was a brief moment of excitement when one person mistakenly thought that the Norwegian was Cavendish, but aside from that I think that everyone knew that it wasn't going to happen.

For those who are interested (Mods: I hope this is okay to post here), I kept a blog on the Euro 2012 football tournament and I intend to do the same for the Olympics: my first post is below.

I know right, I low how they won by a single point and it was all down to the last shot. So tense.
