Re: General Olympics ThreadI thought he lost his QF? :s(Original post by Roobsa)
Muhammad gets bronze in the taekwondo. Some consolation but the Aaron Cook debate will go on for a while I think.
Well if they aren't even expected to make it to the final then it isn't so bad. Not everyone can win a medal and so just getting to the final is an achievement for some athletes.(Original post by diggy)
Why do the commentators always praise the British for poor performances
Coming 12th (out of 12) isn't "great" No need to mean but to call 12th great when people are coming 1st wow
This was posted from The Student Room's Android App on my GT-I9100
I'm guessing you are talking about our female hammer thrower? The one who had to achieve a personal best just to get into the final...
She lives in my town. Was really hoping she could get something.(Original post by Roobsa)
Lisa Dobriskey wins the nicest person ever award.
Her accent is much nicer than the rest of the locals as well.

Re: General Olympics Thread
Good by Anthony Joshua. Was a little stiff in the first two but his superior speed allowed him to land some rights through the centre early anyway. Would have been more comprehensive if he was a little more relaxed though. Great determination in that third round. Hopefully that attitude will see him through the final too.

Re: General Olympics Thread
Does anyone else think the two on the beeb at the moment are the worst reporters so far? I've only paid attention to a couple of minutes, but they've been negative about pretty much everything so far.
Compared to other presenters I've seen who focus a lot on the positives and highlights of the games. These two are saying things like X race was dull, Team GB (the relay teams) is a travesty and things like that.
Edit:
God, they're even admitting stuff like the "legacy" of these Olympics won't mean much after it finishes and when football season starts most people will stop caring. It's kinda true, but I don't think it's necessary to say.Last edited by Tabris; 11-08-2012 at 00:54. -
Re: General Olympics ThreadHow many bronze medals do they give out then as surely it should be a fight between the losing semi-finalists? Unless it is two with the two beaten by the winner before the semi and then the two losing semi-finalists both battling out for a shared bronze?(Original post by Matthew_Lowson)
For some reason if the person who eliminates you reaches final you qualify for the repechage tournament -
Re: General Olympics ThreadThe two fighters who lose against the finalists in the preliminary round face the two fighters who lose against the finalists in the quarter finals. The winner of that face the two losers of the semi-finals.(Original post by SirMasterKey)

Re: General Olympics ThreadIt could get close if the GB boxers all win. The main hopes:(Original post by bkeevin)
What a brilliant start of the day!!! Looks like the start of another Super Saturday!!!
Can we make it to 30???
5000m - Farah (2nd favourite)
Diving - Daley (3rd favourite 10/1)
Boxing gold medal fights - Campbell, Evans, Joshua (only Joshua is favourite)
Women's Modern Pentathlon - Spence (4th favourite)
There may be others that I've missed but I don't think so.Last edited by notnek; 11-08-2012 at 10:56.
