How much harder is A2 than AS?
Discussion for A-Level students and for those choosing their A-Level subjects.

Is the gap from AS to A2 bigger than the gap from GCSE to AS? The subjects I will be carrying onto A2 are English Language, Psychology and Sociology.
Also, tips on A2 workload and revision would be appreciated!
The workload definitely increases, though I don't think the actual amount of content increases.
Especially with English Language, the concepts and the content becomes a bit harder to understand, so you have to put more time into getting what it's on about, if you know what I mean?
English Language A2 is very nice indeed.

Re: How much harder is A2 than AS?
Hi I did English / Lit lang and other humanities subjects
Personally, didn't find the gap between A2 and AS that much of a jump, I think in essay subjects the massive shock simply comes from having to re-learn and adapt your essay writing skills from GCSE to AS.
Once you have those skills from AS, A2 is just a little more in depth I would say.
It probably also helped that enjoyed A2 topics a lot more. -
Re: How much harder is A2 than AS?
From my experience I wouldn't say it gets harder, you just have to manage your time a lot better. The major difference is the amount you have to learn for each exam/unit, it doubles for some subjects. For example sociology (I don't know what exam board your doing but from how I found it) the amount of content increases as does the amount of theories you have to learn. The exam technique also changes as you have to base your answers around counter arguments and there are no short answer questions, everything is pretty much essays. As long as you stay on top of your revision then you should be fine, the most useful thing to do would be to revise each new topic as you go along instead of leaving it all to the end. It makes things so much easier when it comes to those weeks leading up to your exam.

Re: How much harder is A2 than AS?Im with AQA A(Original post by LaEstrella)
It gets more in-depth and much more interesting but with that comes difficulty. Which board are you with for English Language? I was with AQA B so if you're on the same I'd be happy to give you more information

The gap from GCSE to AS kicked my ass, wasn't prepared and suffered badly on AS results day, the jump from AS to A2 is about half of GCSE to AS (and I took very hard subjects) but I also retook my entire AS and it was a brutal year but hopefully gonna pay off now with amazing grades.

Re: How much harder is A2 than AS?
I think it varies depending on subject and yourself
The best thing is to keep ontop of your work in a2 that is a must
Coz January exams come so quickly you don't even realise
You should be working everyday when you start college the amount you work is up to you
But start with 1-2 hours and increase
All the best -

Dude. Sociology has one of the lowest grade boundries. Ie 60% for an A. I remember doing a sociology as a few years ago. Got an A with just some last minute work lmao
