Many universities supply you the kits and uniform I know that southampton solent do and UCB do but it's an additional cost like something between 200-500 pounds something like that! It lasts you like all year

LCF don't supply the kits, they've given everyone a massive list of things to buy. It comes to over £1000, it's so expensive!

When do you get the list? The university told me they would send me a kit list, uniform, timetables and equipment needed but they didnt say when
I had no idea that LCF do not supply you with a kit! Is the make up mainly MAC, Bobby brown etc...

Also I wanted to ask someone who has got in to/had an interview at LCF, what sort of things did you include in your portfolio? Just in case I want to get a head start if I apply there, thanks.

I got into LCF this year to do Hair, Make-up and Prosthetics for Film and TV. I had a variety of stuff in my portfolio but when they sent me the email of what to include they said that life drawing was essential! So I included life drawing, print making, 3D work, paintings, drawing etc.

Hope that helps!

Hey, I'm 25 and will be 28 when I graduate, so you're not that old haha! I think it's a good idea to learn the skills you'll need for a career in makeup safely and by pros, so uni would be perfect. Also it's good to have on a CV that you have a degree - shows dedication if nothing else!! Also uni is an amazing place to make industry contacts! Ultimately it's your decision, but I'd recommend 'shopping around' - there are loads of shorter courses at makeup schools if uni isn't for you. Do you have much experience or training in makeup/prosthetics that would mean that you could walk into a job and work your way up?

I think all the stress from school and college teachers telling me when i was 18 "Its now or you've blown it" got me scared haha! I think your right  needed to hear it from someone else who is interested in the same subject! its difficult to talk to the schools and college i went to as their only answer was me to become a beautician when i said i was interested in prosthetic make-up!
Im going to apply to bournmouth and london  see where i can get into haha! And not to much, defiantly would need a couple of courses to get going but even then they cost near to a degree anyway and as you said its good to show a degree  a proper qualification haha! Are you about to start your degree now then?

I bet it was difficult to talk about it with your school, most teachers would be quite keen to give you advice on the most direct and practical path and lots of colleges offer beautician courses - makeup and prosthetics is a bit more specialist  I applied for both London and Bournemouth last September - didn't get in to London and was accepted in to Bournemouth in February - I think the rejection from London was a blessing in disguise tho, Bournemouth looks amazing! I'm starting in like 2 weeks and cannot wait!!

I hope your application goes well! I can't offer much, but I've been through the application process at least, so if you need any help I'd be glad to give it x

I've recently started a vtct course for makeup in media fashion special effects and hair and after the course is done I'm not sure whether I want to go straight to Uni or if I need to do a foundation course in art and design before I do go , I've looked at southampton Solent , bournemouth and LCf , also other college Uni courses like Manchester and Somerset . But I was wondering if I need to do a foundation art course before I go and if it's worth going to any of the open evenings . Im still young (17) so I thought I better start looking now . Also do you have to apply through ucas ? Because my 6th form deleted my ucas account because I'm no longer with them.
Hi there sorry to post I have just been looking through all these threads and I see there are a few people who wanted/or may have places now at LFC. I am looking to apply this year to do hair and make up for fashion and I just wanted some advice on the best things I can do to get my portfolio and personal statement good as this is the only place i want to go! I am currently studying theatrical, special effects hair and media makeup so I didn't know if it would be an advantage as I will have skills in the special effects but want to do the fashion side of make up, I am planning to do some extra photoshoots on the side, I just wanted help to see what everyone did.

Thank you
Hi polly! I'm applying for Bournemouth and I'm really struggling with what to put in my portfolio, I'm good at applying makeup and have lots of shots to prove that but what else should I include? I'm so stuck!!! Congrats on getting a place!

Hi everyone!

I alredy did my UCAS app (as I go through my college and the deadline was on the 25th). I now need to start working on my portfolio, I am completely lost! Any examples around there? I am applying for LCF and West Thames College. I know in the first one drawing is very important!
I am in the middle of doing my personal statement. Hopefully looking to going to Univeristy College Birmingham to study makeup in a degree. Just really struggling on what to write for my personal statement. Anyone else looking to go here entry 2015? xx
Hello, I've received a unconditional offer from university college birmingham for that course and will be starting in 2015:smile: in my personal statement I include all relevant work experience, workshops that I've attended, why I want to do the course etc. If you want any help let me no, good luck!x
