How do you expect to do well on a foundation year if you cannot do A2? This is coming from someone who did badly at AS.

If one did a foundation course for in a particular field because they did not have the subjects required at a particular uni, could that person then be able to study the field in another uni?

Massively depends on the course and to some extent whether they are uni/college based courses. BM6 at Soton is an access year but you can only go to soton, other courses are simply one year places that allows you to apply to other places.

very helpful reply, helped me alot, however now is there any way of getting student finance in time for september ?
If you do it quick, you might get your loan in time. It;s more likely to be a few weeks late, though, so it would be a good idea if you had some savings to laast a short while.

Have you ever considered that university may not be for you? As far as I'm aware it'll be another step up from A-level so if you can't get good grades now, a degree may be beyond you.
Depends on how much effort he puts in. I put in next to no effort on my A Levels subsequently failed them, took two years to decide what I wanted to do and now about to start a Law Degree. OP might just be a lazy *****

No, it's completely separate. There is an option during the application for them to get your uni details from UCAS but you don't have to. You need to go here and then "full time students apply for 2012/13" but you might want to read some of the other bits before starting your applciation

Yes you can transfer university. It depends on the university you want to transfer to and if they accept the foundation year.

Bradford and Birmingham, both do foundation courses. I'm doing foundation in engineering at Bradford and want to do electrical engineering at Birmingham.

No idea about transferring from those.

Warwick, Bristol, Durham, Manchester and Oxford would consider the foundation year from Loughborough.

Of course there will be people who fail A-levels and are perfectly capable of passing with A's, B's etc if they actually worked, however I'd imagine the majority of people who fail at AS even without putting 100% into their studies simply don't have the academic ability to progress onto University. There are alternatives to university that may well be more appropriate.

Hi, yeah they can depending on the college e.g. City and Islington has five different centres for sixth form, foundations, hnd things and other stuff

It depends what uni you want to study at, if you find somewhere you want to go, check their requirements, I've seen some people on this go to uni a year early but I think they were all A* students or something, it literally depends what uni/course you want to go to.. and yeah you'd have to go through UCAS..

I'm starting a foundation diploma now after A2 levels (but its art foundation so it's required in most unis before a degree anyway)

I don't mean to upset you. But if you are failing As-levels, do you really think you can handle the work load in Uni?

This, I really don't think going to uni at this stage would be a good idea... you have literally only a month to prepare... thats getting a place, accomodation, finance, a bank account, potentially moving away... everything... and you are clearly totally unprepared and have no idea how everything works

Why is it so important for you to go to university now?? I would seriously consider taking a year out of education, try to find work, get on an access course if you can, give yourself space and time to apply for everything for next year.

You don't need A levels at all if you applied to the open uni. So you wont need to worry about getting your offers etc

You've gone past the deadline, but student finance is still open for new applications. It will most likely be late with its first payment since it's now August, but it's worth a try! Give them a call first to see what they say.

if you can't get good A levels after 2 tries how are you going to get a degree?

i'm serious. it doesn't matter whether the problem is lack of talent or lack of motivation to work, unless something is going to be different then you're just going to fail uni too

i'm not trying to be mean, it's just that this is what happened to me and i ended up wasting 3 years of my life and £20000 with nothing to show for it. i'd advise that you consider your options carefully and avoid making the same mistake i did (i told myself i'd work harder at uni than school... didn't happen)
