Re: is there even a point in learning a trade...
Think everything goes in circles. Dont join the construction industry if you want guaranteed work for the rest of your life.
I think people join the industry for the banter, the variety of the tasks and different locations you can work.
Im a roofer an i have worked all around the UK and in Canada. I know lads who have worked in Japan and New Zealand. -
Re: is there even a point in learning a trade...Okay well thanks for taking the time to reply, I guess im looking to be self-employed so I want to make the right choice as I've made the wrong choice before(Original post by ProStacker)
More work is in refurbishment than new builds and that hasn't been hit badly. I don't know a single qualified plumber, sparky or carpenter who isn't working all the hours he wants to. There is always work. -
Re: is there even a point in learning a trade...
I just finished my level 3 plumbing & heating city and guilds.. finding it SO difficult to find apprenticeships in the UK, I have looked at so many companys and asked alot of self employed plumbers aswell. A self employed guy told me that its difficult atm, how he struggles to find work even 3-4 times a week, mainly because there are just too many plumbers around. He stated that 5-10 years back the demand was high, and ever since then they've recruited and trained too many and its just becoming a struggle to find work.
I am looking for anything to work in atm, might even go back to college and do business or something!
