Durham's very good for sports clubs, the collegiate system means that it's a lot easier to get involved at any level too (since most colleges will have their own teams for each sport, then there's the university wide teams for the best of the best)

Loughborough and Bath are both very good for playing sports to a high level.

If you want breadth of sports available, and more opportunities for 5-a-side followed by a trip to the pub style sport, rather than winning BUCS medals, then a larger uni would probably be better. For instance, Manchester has a wide range of sports, as listed here http://www.sport.manchester.ac.uk/athletic-union

A colligiate uni gives you the opportunity to take part at both college and university level, so I think it tends to make it easier to get into a sport.

I went to Bath. Unless you were an Olympic athlete it was **** to play sport at because recreational student sport was a low priority for them. I have heard the same complaint multiple times from students at Loughborough.

Big universities like Nottingham are far more accomodating to student sports clubs in my experience.

If you are likely to be an elite athlete, go to Loughborough. If you are not, don't.
