So.. thoughts, predictions, etc.
Even with Deng I don't see us having any chance against the other teams in our group.. all of them are above 15th seed and have formidable players. The majority of our roster play for teams overseas, so I can't really see much chemistry. Hopefully we'll still put up a good fight.Last edited by Aaron_xyz; 02-08-2012 at 11:26. -
Re: Men's basketballThat's British basketball for you, I used to play...................a few of mates went over to the states to play in high school, even they stated how the speed of the gaming abroad is so much faster in comparison and a lot more muscle.(Original post by Aaron_xyz)

You never know though, Britain's first proper time, I think they'll do decent if they stick together, also Ben Gordon where is he

Re: Men's basketball
Opposing teams will just double and triple team Deng and make him do all the work. It's not going to end well. I'd like to see us get out of the group, but Spain are probably the second best team here (have an NBA star-studded frontcourt in the Gasol twins and Ibaka, as well as Navarro and Calderon to run the point), and Brazil have some decent players too in Nene, Barbosa and Huertes. Even Australia and China pose a threat.
Ben Gordon couldn't commit to the Olympics because he got traded recently in the NBA.(Original post by Iqbal007)

Re: Men's basketballBrazil are pretty good. They have some NBA calliber players. They even lost to the US recently by only 11 points (Spain lost by 22 and Argentina by 6)(Original post by danny111)
B has what Spain and then who else is any good?
EDIT:
Also OP, I imagine it might be worth putting the USA schedule as well. They'll probably be the most exciting games to watch with all their talent.(Original post by Aaron_xyz)

Re: Men's basketball
Just watched the Olympic Exhibition match between Britain and USA running up to the 2012 games. That was embarrassing, I am completely behind the team but if we are to impress in this tournament and make a name for ourselves as well as promote British basketball (something which desperately needs to be done) we have to perform, can't play like we did against USA. damn

Re: Men's basketball
Looking forward to it, I got tickets for the one on Tuesday, especially the French and US games.
The British will get massacred though, we might need to promote British Basketball (which is invisible in this country and in desperate need of awareness) but with teams like USA and others, they wont get far -
Re: Men's basketballYou don't need to go on Iplayer, BBC Sport has live coverage of every sport going on now.(Original post by Aaron_xyz)
Is there a way you can change sports on BBC1 in iPlayer? Or can you only switch sports on the red button? -
Re: Men's basketballOh ye thanks(Original post by The Cornerstone)

Re: Men's basketball
That was tight, I thought Brasil would have won it easily but the Aussies worried them for a while.
Yeah, IIRC they won the one in Beijing and they have a strong team now. Although I can imagine the attention going into their heads, I heard they're comparing themselves to the dream team of 1992...I mean really?(Original post by Isometrix)
Are USA tournament favourites? -
Re: Men's basketballWell i mean they have quite easily the best team in the world and even after injuries to Dwight Howard, Derrick Rose, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade as well as Blake Griffin. They haven't all been saying it just a couple of the players. There shouldnt be that much of a change from Beijing every olympics USA go into in the basketball they know anything but a gold will be a failure.(Original post by The Cornerstone)

Re: Men's basketballThey compared themselves to 1992 in Beijing since they wanted redemption after failing to win in 2004.(Original post by The Cornerstone)
