It's a lot to have going to uni, and it's just solely yours.
Makes student life quite a lot easier with rent, daily costs, etc

Very much doubt it unless they've made some very good savings via their family or been lucky with P/T jobs.

You can be quite happy at uni with a lot less than that.

Well i certainly wouldnt argue with it, let me put it that way and considering the vast majority of students are usually complaining about how theyve got but a couple of pounds to their name it is pretty good yes...

Hell of a lot imo. I went to uni with £200 in the bank, and I considered that being well prepared.

Yeah it's a lot, are you going into your first year or have you already started?
You should work out how much you need and put some of the rest in an ISA - if it's in a high interest savings account you can make some more money off it, that's what I plan to do with some of mine anyway

I would doubt it.............as your living at home you'll be saving a lot, but if your starting uni this year with the 9k than I would say it's a different story.

unless he is paying tuition fees himself upfront how will that make any difference what so ever?

im saying if its 9k fee, he'll be more inclined pay it off early, but if he's not, £13k is a quite a lot for a student.

Depends on the context doesn't it

For some people that is nothing, for others it represents an annual income

Also depends on why you have it and what your personal outgoings are

    Is it average what

    average savings = no

average salary = unlikely since it would be part time work

average inheritance = no but not unlikely

    or average something else

Leave 5k in a student account and the other 8k in a high interest ISA.
