    Wipers all screwed up
    Hi everyone,

I had a new windscreen replaced today however when the guy fitted it the drivers side wiper was sheared off (the bolt/screw to connect it) and now can't be screwed back on

He placed the passenger side back on and left it in the middle of the windscreen and it worked however It didn't go back to the bottom once turned off

So I re-did it so it started at the bottom of the windscreen per normal but now It doesn't work. It tries to but fails and I've tried both wipers just incase I got the wrong side

Anyone have any ideas? I have no idea what I'm doing lol I was thinking probably be easier to get a new wiper motor with linkage (since the one side is sheared) and new wipers and just get a garage to fit it?

If you've managed to sheer the bolt off just drill and tap it out again to take the next smallest thread size.

Well I managed to sort the passenger wiper so now It's just the drivers side which can't be screwed on

    Heres pics of the state:

Excuse the poor looking scuttle panel, Need to replace it

So I should be able to drill (into the centre?) of this to "pull" more screw thread up?

I hope you were paying to get the arms replaced and not the blades...

A the new car I just recently bought, if I switch the wipers on the first click they reach the top of the windscreen and stick their obstructing my view, any ideas?

It's mostly just the wiper motor linkage that needs replaced now really as you can see in the pictures above there's nothing to screw the drivers wiper blade onto

As JC said, I would check out what's underneath and see how much depth you have to play with. Start with a small pilot bit, and drill in as far as you can, and then work your way up, and then tap the hole to take a new bolt, rather than the original nut. You may need a couple of washers between the arm and the bolt head to make sure the arm doesn't wobble, but it'd be doable.

    It's recoverable.

Take a look at the length of the other bolt that isn't stripped - that'll give you a clue how much you've got to play with.
I think I'd be inclined to drill and tap it out and then screw in some threaded bar and then use a nut and washer to nip it down rather than a fresh bolt rather than risking stripping out the thread you've just re-tapped with a bolt.

This is of course making the assumption that there is enough spline material left on the wiper spindle to do the job? You may end up fitting a new wiper box anyway?
