I did French A-level. I would say that unless you're a natural linguist, you will probably get a B max, languages are hard.

What universities/courses are you considering applying for? If getting a B in French won't matter too much, then the subject itself is more impressive than philosophy. However if you need straight As for uni, then I wouldn't do it.

That may true, I am thinking of applying to Russell group universities in London such as UCL and Kings College London because they are close to me (I could just catch the tube) and I hear they have very good facilities for Law and I love London too, so I am very much attracted to the prospect of studying there. I've also been on work experience at a chambers in London and spoke to some university students, one girl who spoke quite highly of her Law course at Kings. I would ideally like A's and am extremely willing to work industriously with French but I get your point about being a "natural linguist". I am half English and my dad speaks spanish to me and so I have a small grounding in one other language, and my mum studied spanish and history at university and did french A-level too so I guess some things come naturally to me because of parental influences but I dont know about being a "natural linguist" so to speak but I enjoy French.

If you don't mind me asking, what in particular did you find hard about French A-level? and how were the classes? I still am interested because I think I might be able to do it, even just to AS which is my intention

I made a long post about this point exactly. Bear with me as I hunt for it, but it should answer all your questions.
