Re: How to sell a very expensive itemSo's mine. It's the placard bearer costume, the person who leads the athletes in the parade of nations. Which is on par i'd think, maybe more?? I'm not sure(Original post by DaveSmith99)
Torches have been symbolic of every olympic games there have ever been though. It probably is worth quite a bit though to be fair, your best bet is probably to stick it on ebay. There are already a few on there.
I probably won't sell it after all though

Not as iconic as a torch but probably of more interest than a nurses outfit
Which country did you lead out? -
Re: How to sell a very expensive itemThanks for the insult.(Original post by tamimi)
With all due respect OP, you're sliggghhtly delusional.
However, if you give us a tad more detail on the item, I'm sure some TSR users including myself would be happy to give you an honest (and more serious) opinion.
P.s. The torch is bound to be worth a lot more. It's far more symbolic than costumes - These costumes change every year, but the torch is like a 2700 year old tradition.
Most of them were, the ones without much advertisement I'd assume. BUT i did see a couple over 100 thousand. And there was still a bit of time left.(Original post by TenOfThem)
they were selling for 3000-5009 not hundreds of thousands -
Re: How to sell a very expensive itemWell it really depends on what it is, care to be more specific ?(Original post by neom)
Does anyone know how I can go about selling (potentially) a very expensive item?
I think it could into thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands. I'm not entirely sure actually and you really never know
Edit: Even though I say hundreds of thousands, I don't actually expect it! yeesh.. Though I do hope

Re: How to sell a very expensive itemThank you(Original post by toronto353)
It all depends on a number of factors. What part of the Olympics is it from? If it's simply a runner's outfit for example from a section of the Olympic flame route that wasn't well publicised, then it's probably worth very little. Were all 200 released or was your's the only one that's in the hands of a member of the public? That will also make it more desirable. Without knowing more details, no-one anywhere can give you a decent idea of its worth. I'd be careful of assuming that it will be expensive though. The prices of the torches for example are probably due to the hype of the Olympics, but I wouldn't expect a lot of Olympics gear to be worth anything for many, many years.
I'll probably keep it for a while then. I made this thread straight after I saw a nurses outfit on ebay with a starting bid of £5000 and thought 'there must be a better way to sell something that expensive than ebay'

There may be specialist auctions relating to sporting memorabilia ... possibly need to wait until the end of the games -
Re: How to sell a very expensive itemYep, that one.(Original post by TenOfThem)
One of those dresses with the faces?

Which country did you lead out?
I saw the nurses one with a starting price of £5000, which is what prompted this whole thread in the first place lol
I'd rather not say the country, sorry

Re: How to sell a very expensive itemYou've taken two entire pages to say almost nothing of import. If you want constructive input, stop obfuscating.(Original post by neom)

Re: How to sell a very expensive itemffs, i've already said what the item is and where it's from. There's no point saying what country it is since the clothes are all the same(Original post by Profesh)

Re: How to sell a very expensive itemdid you see my link ^^^ there seem to be some reliable valuers out there(Original post by neom)
ffs, i've already said what the item is and where it's from. There's no point saying what country it is since the clothes are all the same -
Re: How to sell a very expensive itemYeah, I did. Thank you, I'm looking through them at the moment(Original post by TenOfThem)

Re: How to sell a very expensive itemYes, and it's taken a protracted exercise in semantic dentistry even to elicit that much. No-one is going to notify MI5's 'Good Citizenship' Division of your diabolical subterfuge; you are not Indiana Jones, Professor Moriarty or the goddamned Riddler. So please, in future, do your would-be benefactors the courtesy of including such obviously pertinent information in the first post – where it belongs – and you'll spare us all a considerable amount of unnecessary melodrama.(Original post by neom)

Edit: Apologies for the castigation, but this sort of self-aggrandising nonsense is so endemic to TSR that I can't help but bridle at yet another 'oh, I'd rather not say' thread whose much-vaunted 'intrigue' turns out to involve something of absolutely no consequence to anyone. For God's sake, stop prevaricating.Last edited by Profesh; 28-07-2012 at 21:15. -
Re: How to sell a very expensive itemby the time you joined the thread the OP had said all that was needed(Original post by Profesh)
and you'll spare us all a considerable amount of unnecessary melodrama.
What is the problem? -
Re: How to sell a very expensive itemThey are potentially more valuable because I believe that each one is unique in that they feature different people. However, since they all have the same concept design and your costume probably doesn't feature anyone famous, it is unlikely to be as valuable as you think it to be. That said, it's always worth getting valued so that you know its potential value.(Original post by neom)
Thank you

Yes, and it's taken a protracted exercise in semantic dentistry even to elicit that much. No-one is going to notify MI5's 'Good Citizenship' Division of your diabolical subterfuge; you are not Indiana Jones, Professor Moriarty or the goddamned Riddler. So please, in future, do your would-be benefactors the courtesy of including such obviously pertinent information in the first post – where it belongs – and you'll spare us all a considerable amount of unnecessary melodrama.
The thread went pretty fast, and if you think about a page or so of short sentences is too long/hard to read then honestly, that's your problem.
My Initial question was 'HOW you would sell an expensive item?' what part of that don't you get? It's not like i'm trying to sell a bloody house.
No one even needed to know what the item is/where it was from, all you needed to sort-of know was what kind of item it is. Which i said pretty early on.
If you have no information of use to contribute, you can go away now.
