Re: How to sell a very expensive itemMost of which were contributed by others, and consisted in bemoaning your almost zen-like reticence: "I want to sell a thing, whose value I've arbitrarily speculated at between one-thousand and a gazillion pounds" is simply fatuous.(Original post by neom)
The thread went pretty fast, and if you think about a page or so of short sentences is too long/hard to read then honestly, that's your problem.
Well, quite. Although judging by the content of your initial post one might have been forgiven for thinking otherwise. My Initial question was 'HOW you would sell an expensive item?' what part of that don't you get? It's not like i'm trying to sell a bloody house.
And which should've been stated at the outset. Because, y'know, when you throw yourself on the mercy of strangers in the hope of gleaning advice on a subject about which you know absolutely nothing, electing to impart as little information as possible would seem rather obviously counter-intuitive to anyone possessed of a modicum of sense. No one even needed to know what the item is/where it was from, all you needed to sort-of know was what kind of item it is. Which i said pretty early on.
If it is genuinely your heartfelt desire to squander the time and expertise of people with week-long academic, social and professional engagements who are under no moral obligation to participate in yet another tedious bout of '20 Questions' on TSR, go here.If you have no information of use to contribute, you can go away now.
I hope this information helps you to use others' time more effectively in future. -
Re: How to sell a very expensive itemI said thousands, as an idea of how expensive I was talking about. People have different ideas of what they think is expensive. I edited pretty quickly saying I didn't expect to get hundreds of thousands though it's not entirely impossible.(Original post by Profesh)

Also, what kind of houses have you been looking at..
Again, I was originally asking HOW you would sell something expensive.
But whatever, you didn't have to reply to this thread and you still don't have to. It's not an obligation. -
Re: How to sell a very expensive itemErm, how?(Original post by chelseafan)
oh stfu attention seeker.
Also, No one asked you to read through it.
About 5 people responded in a couple mins. I didn't just ignore them and play the 'vague' card. And the people who responded after me didn't see my response in time. -
Re: How to sell a very expensive itemSounds like a thread to brag about being involved in the opening ceremony to me....(Original post by neom)

Re: How to sell a very expensive itemReally? I didn't mean it. It was a spur of the moment thread after browsing ebay and I wasn't expecting many replies or expecting many people to care so I didn't check the thread again straight away.(Original post by chelseafan)
Sounds like a thread to brag about being involved in the opening ceremony to me....
I've already asked friends but none of them really know so I took a shot in the dark, thinking maybe someone might know on tsr
I was actually going to do this thread anonymously but didn't get the option so.. :| -
Re: How to sell a very expensive item
How about you just put it on Ebay and see how much people bid for it rather than asking others to feed your "I'm potentially sitting on top of a gazillion pounds right now" fantasy? because everyone here is right. you're probably overvaluing the thing, whatever it is, both due to personal attachment and dreams of striking it rich. I was the same earlier today when i tried to sell my brand hew HTC desire. Brand new, shiny, does everything, worth £200 in the shops apparently. I was confident of getting at least £130 for it. CEX offered me £90

Re: How to sell a very expensive itemFrom quick glance on ebay, there's one costume that someone's asking £5000 for. However, someone is asking only £250 by comparison for their's. Neither have got bids.(Original post by neom)

Re: How to sell a very expensive itemCEX tend to offer really low prices for some reason, you could've gotten more on ebay probably. I don't really have personal attachment but honestly, it's probably the striking it rich thing. But i was exaggerating with the hundreds of thousands thing, though not entirely impossible, I wasn't actually expecting it.(Original post by Podcaster)

The clothes are the exact replicas of each other so I wouldn't think so.(Original post by DomWall)
surely it will be worth more if it's the outfit from leading out a well known country (i.e. USA) compared to someone like American Samoa? So it would help if you said which country...
Yeah, I saw those. I made this thread to see if there was a better way of selling these items. Ebay just seems like a weird place to sell it, idk(Original post by toronto353)

It seems like a place you'd sell your slightly torn/worn out top -
Re: How to sell a very expensive itemOh ok sorry. I seem to have misjudged you. Also btw don't judge ebay starting bids . Look at items where people have actually bid as this will provide a more realistic price. Good luck selling your costume.(Original post by neom)

You do know that the Olympic Torches were offered to the various bearers that carried them for £255 after they had ran their 'Olympic torch run' so I find the figures you're quoting to be farcical.(Original post by neom)
Thanks for the insult.
Most of them were, the ones without much advertisement I'd assume. BUT i did see a couple over 100 thousand. And there was still a bit of time left.

Sorry I stand corrected, to add even more salt to your previous comments, instead of the £255 I stated in my previous comment, it was £200 that they were offered for sale to the Olympic torch bearers [all 8000 of them]. So to claim that there were bids of over 100k for a single torch is just absurd.
And before you come back with any make believe statements that disagree with what I've just stated the evidence is here for all to see:

Re: How to sell a very expensive itemYes, I know all of that. They were then resold for thousands more.(Original post by J0nes_X)

If you search 'olympic torch' on ebay, you will see several being sold right now for over £4000. And this is when the hype has died down.
During the hype I saw a couple being sold for over £100, 000. There's even a TSR thread about the whole thing! I'll link it to you if you don't believe me. I wasn't just talking out of my arse.
Before you denouce my statements as 'make believe' maybe you should've done some research of your own.Last edited by neom; 29-07-2012 at 17:40. -
No Olympic Torch was sold for 100k. Are you seriously trying to pass off a TSR thread as a credible source? OH DEAR.(Original post by neom)

Hey neom, a news article about you: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/oly...-ceremony.html

Re: How to sell a very expensive itemLol, I haven't put anything on ebay. And IMO, there's nothing wrong with it. Others can decide what they want to do with their personal belongings, as long as it isn't harming anyone, it's not really my place to judge and neither is it any of my business.(Original post by chelseafan)
