    Too old for 2016 Olympics?
Hi, I am 20, and a dental student in my senior years ... Basically from the age of 5-17 I have been training in karate which unfortunately is not an olympic sport .. my problem is that during my time in karate I came 3rd in the scottish championships and then second when i was little older ... About 11 for bronze and then 15 when i got silver.. my instructor was known internationally and had some tension with other clubs and therefore he never put his students for competitions due to biased refereeing .. I left his club to to focus on my education at 17 and now after watching the olympics i am just feeling that my place should be there ... i am now 20 and am wondering if it would be too late to join a tae-kwon -do club and start from there to achieve a place in the olympics.. i am not saying I am standing at olympic standards just now .. just wondering if I start woking out and training a lot will I be to old for 2016/2020? I know myself well enough that with hard work i can do it ...bear in mind i'm doing dentistry .... advice?

If you get up to the same standard as younger competitors then your age isn't going to hold you back. But whether you would be able to get to that standard is another issue entirely.

You never know unless you try, and I always say life's too short to give up on things before you've even started. So I wish you the best of luck!

I'm almost twenty and I'm practicing for the Archery and Shooting next Olympics. If it comes through, I'll go for the Downhill, but there's no guarantee that will be employed. I would also like to try for pro in the BMX, as I'm fairly good at that.

My swimming is fantastic, but not nearly to the same extent these Olympians run at, nor is my running.

As another user said, you'll be 24 and your body will be around its prime age. Four years is a long, long wait but hell, why not work for something like that?

Your age won't be the problem, getting to Olympic level at Taekwondo will. Think about how much time you have to dedicate to the sport if you're balancing it with dentistry, and whether it's realistic.

If you do go for it, best of luck pal. Even if you realise you can't manage to become an Olympian, you could have a lot of fun with the sport anyway.
