Hoping to become a midwife!!
Hiya
Right long story short...
Iv recently applied for a place on an access to higher education course in nursing in midwifery with the aim to become a fully qualified midwife in the future. Iv been reading about how the NHS pay your tuition fees for u and then you can apply for various grants. My main concern is what is the clause? Do u have to work in the NHS for an amount of time because they have paid your fees or once you have finished uni can you work where you want? My main reason for asking is I hope to move to australia with my partner once qualified. He will be the main applicant for the visa so he will do this when i am in my last year at uni because of how long it takes so we have no idea when we will be going in respect to when i finish the course.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: Hoping to become a midwife!!
Hello! I am looking to do Midwifery as well! I've been waiting One Born Every Minute and the new Midwifery series on BBC Two!! I too think about the reason why NHS pay for our tuition fees. I think it is best you contact them by going on the NHS bursary website. Asking them directly will give you the best answer to your question.
All the best! =D -
Re: Hoping to become a midwife!!
Yes that is right the NHS pay tuition fees, there is no obligation to work in the NHS for a set amount of time you can go where you want straight away. They get free labour out of you for 3 years so I think its fair enough. Although word of working practising as a midwife in Australia may be a bit different to what you get used to here, its much more obstetric based similar to the US system
You have to apply through NHS bursaries and they sort it all out for you, in addition if you'll eligible you'll receive a bursary of up to £4,500 a year, and you get a reduced loan of about £2,000 from student grants. Prepare to be very skint for 3 years.
I'm just finishing up as a midwife and the new midwifery series is filmed at my training hospital and where I'll take my first post as a midwife in November!
Any questions just ask or PM me
