Re: My friend is a pathological liar.
I have a friend who is exactly like this. She is my best friend of quite a number of years now, and I have come to realise it's because she has had quite a lot of things missing in her life. She does it to make up for the things she never had; she does it so people will care about her because it was lacking in her life previously. I've come to learn to live with it. She does it because there is something inherantly wrong and she has done it since we were little girls, really, and more than being frustrated and angry I just feel sad she feels she needs to do that, especially in front of me. I think she got worse before she started to improve.

We had a talk about it, she awkwardly acknowledged it and nothing really changed. They aren't hurtful lies and sometimes she'll lie about the most odd things, sometimes its quite amusing and most people know she's making it up, at the end of the day it's just a quirk of her personality I've learnt to deal with and I just roll with it.

Thank you for this comment. You are clearly a very kindhearted person and a great friend for her to have.

I'm still friends with her, she is very funny and a lot of fun. I don't mind some of her lies, they can be quite humorous, just the more serious ones, particularly the one about illness, get to me sometimes.

Thank you again for your reply, your friend is lucky to have you as a friend. All the best
