it costs £140 more for the extra lens.

should i buy it as part of the package? or can i get it on its own later for that price?

Would not have recommended getting the Nikon J1 for someone that wants to get into photography :/

What's the lens you have and which is the extra?

What kind of photos do you take?

Nikon is definitely a more professional camera.. so, depends on what kind of photography you are interested in.

    More professional than what?

OP, have a look at offerings from Olympus and Panasonic too, older models will be cheaper than the Nikon version, and the much larger sensor will return better quality images too.

That's a far better idea than the Nikon system, in my opinion.

See this is what I hate about that website, the Nikon wins by arbitrary numbers. Do you even understand what half the plus points of the Nikon are? Most of them would have absolutely no use to you as an amateur photographer. The Panasonic, on the other hand, has a longer battery life (less charging up), lower noise at high ISO (pictures look better in the dark without the flash), higher resolution for making bigger prints, longer max exposure so you can take night shots, and whilst is slightly larger, is actually lighter than the Nikon. Weight over size every time. Personally, if I was travelling and had to choose between the two, it would definitely be the Panasonic. It also has a far wider range of lenses to choose from if you want to upgrade later on.
