It's because I saw Dimas do a power jerk ages ago and I never noticed it was different. I thought it looked different but didn't understand exactly why till now.

There totally different movements really - powerjerk requires a ton of leg strength, but squat jerk requires far more ridiculous shoulder mobility and great balance. Just try to squat jerk the bar and you'll fail it forward. It's ****ing hard, which is why Lu Xiaojun doing it with more than 200kg is mindblowing.

    In terms of difficulty

squat jerk > power jerk > split jerk

Man Lu Xiaojun is so ****ing aesthetic
Also, tehy were pronouncing it "Shao-jun" i thought it was pronounced "shay-jun" anyone clear it up for me?

If only the Korean and Lu Haojie didn't get injured. We would've seen even better results and a new all time total. When Lu Haojie did that c&j with a busted elbow that was inspiring.
Yeah definitely inspiring. My parents were all like "nooo don't do it!" and I was like "woo yeah do it ".

but seriously, I do not need to see the slowmos of their faces, show the whole lifter damnit
So true. I'm watching to try and learn something. I learn nothing from their faces (apart from how obviously drugged up some of them are).

The difference between power and squat is simply that one you "catch" higher up and the other you squat down - no?

Don't see why power would require more leg strength considering you do more like a half squat whereas squat jerk you go all the way down.

Pretty much the same difference as doing a snatch balance (like I do them catching way above parallel) and a heaving snatch balance.
The power jerk requires more leg power, because your dip&drive has to be strong enough to drive the bar high enough, so that you don't really need to duck underneath it as much.
With the squat jerk, you're essentially using your legs to drive the bar up, but then you duck underneath and let it drive you to the floor. This mean you don't need to get it as high and you have sligthly more time to get underneath and lock out, but it requires crazy amounts of balance and mobility, like HFerguson said.

Though once you think about it; he's squatting overhead the kind of weights that his competitors have trouble front squatting....So yeah, he needs to have ****ing strong legs.

Wonder why they have decided to go the route of squat jerk with him. Anyone know if he used to do split/power earlier in his career?

Woah, watching yesterday's women's 69. Amazing jerk by the columbian; had to fight out of the hole, and then started shaking while in the rack position, but then bam! up goes the jerk, rock solid.

Difference is catch depth, but in the power jerk, you can sorta cheat it - catch it higher, but then follow it forward, because the shoulder mobility isn't all there. Watch the all time great power-jerkers, like Pyros Dimmas - he'll always walk and follow it forward. Now watch Lu Xiaojun squat jerk it - he doesn't move. The power jerk requires more leg strength because it's a power move, and you have to stop the weight from pushing you all the way into the hole, requiring isometric strength.

edit: also what aivi said - gotta drive the bar higher. In the squat jerk, you just have to get some upwards momentum on the bar, and sit down into the hole quicker than gravity brings the bar down

I've never seen Lu Xiajoun use anything but squat jerk, in competition at least. It's hard to learn, but power jerk works better for people who are more leg dominant. Squat jerk is the same, best for those leg dominant, but requires epic mobility and balance. I've seen loads of chinese in training (on youtube) squat jerking it perfectly, sitting in the hole perfectly, then losing it forward when trying to stand up with it.

Yeah, I watched it live. She did so well! There was the one Polish woman who I was sure had made her lift but her elbow touched her knee

If he got that C&J he would have been 2kg off the winning total lol. I agree, something must have been wrong

Yeah massively. I expect him to apologize to the nation of china now. Gutted Hennequin bombed out of the snatch as well, he is one of my favourite lifters and he has amazing thighs.
