Policeman with some sort of hand held camera
Evening all,
Quick message to keep it to the point. On departing work this evening, I drove past a single policeman with a hand held scanner/camera.
It was a 30mph speed limit, however I didn't see what speed I was doing.
As I drove past he did something with his hand help device, I didn't notice any lights or anything. After cursing I looked in my rear view mirror to see him just looking over his shoulder.
I know it's my own fault and I'm not making any excuses.
I was just wondering whether there are any indications of speeding e.g. A light of some kind or whether they would pull you over?
Cheers. -

I hate when they do this... I can really say to them, 'have you got nothing better to do when there are robbers, rapist and countless other things out ther;, and your scared someone is going 31' -

It's quite unlikely they'll go to the effort of sending you a fine for a few MPH above the speed limit.
Usually, if it's an officer in a car, they're on the lookout for people doing excessive speed (i.e. double the speed limit or near to). They usually chase after and then pull over people they want to prosecute.
However, sometimes they do sit there and record the reg number of everyone who exceeds the speed limit at any amount. They are well within their rights to as going at any speed higher than the limit for that road is against the law.
Keep checking your mail for the next 14 days for a fine. If you don't get one within that time, you'll be OK. If you receive a fine after this time, check the date on it - if it's more than 14 days after the day you got caught, it's not valid.
