Should I take the ACA exemptions?
Hi everyone,
Basically, I am eligible for 5 exemptions from the ACA exams. But, I am not sure whether I should take it or not.
If I do take the exemptions ---- Less work for me and beneficial for the firm. But, I may struggle in the application modules and Advanced stage exams.
No exemptions ---- More work for me, but I would have refreshed my memory of the accountancy key concepts.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!! -

Take the exemptions and go over the modules in your free time? -
Re: Should I take the ACA exemptions?I agree with this. However, it's about whether your motivation would truly be there, and you wouldn't have that test to study for that will push encourage you and that will demonstrate if you've learned what's required.(Original post by ilovecatsforlife)

It depends on your will-power for studying; can you self-study something you will not be tested on. Like you said - you will need these for later modules, so either way you should study for them. However, it could money (which I assume your firm will cover), but most importantly - time. -
Re: Should I take the ACA exemptions? On top of working a 35-50 hour week, going home and studying of your own accord........ Is not going to happen.(Original post by ilovecatsforlife)

Plus I am not sure if you will get the study materials if you are exempt.
Bottom line, you will not qualify any sooner, it still takes 3 years. At worst it is a refresher of knowledge and it is some extra study.
If your knowledge is fairly fresh and you have a solid understanding of the basics, then I would consider it.
If you get one for law defo take that one, as it pretty much does not come up again and is a stand a lone topic and quite frankly a waste of time! -
Re: Should I take the ACA exemptions?I will get exemptions in Accounting, Business and Finance, Law, Management Information and Financial Management.(Original post by Big_Dave)

So, what you are saying is that I should take exemptions in some of the exams (like Law), but not all??? -
Re: Should I take the ACA exemptions?
Take Law, maybe B+F and potentially FM, but only to save the stress of on that one. I would def do the first two from experience though as they're easy and pointless. BF has follow on but you'd be better just borrowing a colleagues notes to swot up as its all basic stuff anyone will know most of already.

Re: Should I take the ACA exemptions?
It's a difficult one. KPMG make you sit the mocks before you get your exemption (or at least they do in Tax). People who were on my course at other Big Four got the exemptions and done fine. If you put the refreshment work in you'll be fine. I wouldn't want the pressure of having to sit the exam again to be honest.
