    Laptop advice (gaming)
Hi there, need a little advice. I'm not looking for a hardcore gaming laptop or anything and I know PC's are a lot better for it (and cheaper) but unfortunately I move around a lot and it'll be a pain.

I mostly play MMO's, and will be playing Guild Wars 2 and my laptop is getting old and I'm looking for one which will play it comfortably (not bothered about max settings) but a decent FPS at medium settings is desirable.

I've been looking at an Asus Laptop, and it costs about £1000, is this a good brand, and a good price? Or can I get a better deal for less?

    Processor: Intel Core i7-3610QM Quad-core (2.3GHz)
    Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M 2G GDDR5
Memory: 16GB DDR3 1600 MHz SDRAM, 4 x SODIMM socket for expansion up to 16GB SDRAM

Any laptop recommendations will be appreciated !

    Thanks for reading!

Seems very good and from a good maker.........remember though that the laptop version of graphics and processors are slightly weaker than their desktop counterpart, but you should still be able to play games on top settings, though expect the fan to be kind of noisy, so suggest getting a cooling pad and if you know how to, change the thermal paste for the heatsink for better temps.

The best I can find is a Medion laptop with the same processor, but 8gb ram and a GT650 for £729.
I will say that amount of ram is serious overkill unless your going to do serious video editing and similar intensive program usage.

But that's a pretty good deal to be honest for £1000, make sure the battery life above 3+ hours without power management.

I was in the same position as you and boiled it down to two choices.
It was between an ASUS or MSI. MSI's GE60-0nd has got the same specs as the specs you posted and it's about the same price. The only real difference I think is in its design.

ASUS has got a much bulkier design where it has large vents on the back (which I really don't like even though it cools the machine down really quickly). The MSI GE60 is slimmer but it doesn't stay quite as cool as the ASUS but it's not boiling either. It's got one side vent which doesn't effect you if you have the laptop on your lap for a long time because the hot air isn't coming out the back.

I went with the GE60 mostly because of the design but I've had it for about a month now and cannot be happier with my decision. The only bad thing is that the plastic beneath the CD drive feels a bit flimsy when I lift but everything else is really sturdy.

Which ASUS model were you looking at?

You could build a desktop good enough for most games on OK settings, then buy a laptop as well for £1000. A gaming laptop is useless to carry round because they run so hot and have low battery life.

I would suggest you get a Macbook, Air or Pro.

I am currently using mac Air, very lightweight, thin, beautifully designed and everything is perfect about it.

bought it for £1100 I think.

If you read OP's post properly, you would see that he is asking for gaming laptop recommendations, not for you to recommend the laptop which you have that does not fit into this category. The MacBook Air is not even powerful enough to be a mediocre gaming machine, as the 2012 ivy bridge models' GPU is shared and not discrete. Also, Apple laptops/PCs are inferior for gaming in comparison to Windows based solutions.

He is looking for a gaming laptop, a Macbook Air is nowhere near powerful enough to game on, and the Pro would cost far more than £1000 to get the same performance as the Asus one he mentioned.

I would make sure you get a cooling pad as well if you're gaming. Why? Well laptops do not have a lot of airflow throughout the system, making components to run at high temps which reduces the life of the components

I'm no expert but I think the specs on that will be more than enough for GW2. It's up to you whether you want to pay more for a Laptop that will be able to play more demanding games. What I'm saying is, will you actually use the laptop to it's full potential. If not I'd go for something cheaper because there's no point paying more for something you won't be using.

Hey, do you mind telling me what model this is and where I can find it? Sounds like a very powerful machine for the price. I've read on various forums that the GTX 660M should perform at high settings so I don't think you need to worry too much.
