    Can Practice nurses prescribe antibiotics?
I have an infected cartilage piercing that just will not calm down no matter how many salt soaks I do, got it done with a needle and have a titanium ring that I am not allergic to. I don't think it's serious enough to see a doctor for so I was wondering whether I can get antibiotics of a practice nurse. Thanks.

If the Nurse in question is an independent prescriber or there is Patient group direction in place then yes. I'm interested in your belief that some thing that is worthy of being seen by a prescriber is not worthy of being seen by a Doctor ?

Well it's an infected piercing. I can see and feel it is infected, a doctor requires an appointment and I won't get one for a week.

Some can, but many can't. It would be worth calling up your practice to check, as if they can't, it's a wasted appointment for both of you. It's not an unreasonable thing to take to a GP though - and in some practices where I have been a patient it takes longer to get a nurse appointment than a doctor one!
