    Physiotherapy Degree
Hello Everyone, need some advice I am planning on applying to do the BSc Hons Physiotherapy Degree next years 2013 septemeber. I am going to study the Open University KS277 Human Biology module this year as well as my maths GCSE resit. I am planning on going back as a mature student as my second degree I have one in IT but hate it and now after much placements and personal stuff decided on a career in healthcare and physio. I have emailed several Universities some will accept my qualifications and some wont. My choices are :
    Nottingham
    Coventry
    Manchester Met
    Sheffield
    Lancaster

Anyone go to these Universities or heard anything about which may be the best one to go to? Also the Bursary does this cover your tuition fees as well as expenses?

    Thanks

Same as what I did - original degree in I.T. hated it and then studied physio. Didn't go to any of the unis you have listed, but it is generally accepted that there isn't really a best uni to go to in terms of quality of degree, prestige etc - they are all the same as you come out with a degree that lets you register as a physio. I would decide purely on the basis of which one suits you best in terms of learning style, where you want to be based etc.

The bursary covers your tuition fees, and you will be able to reclaim money for travel expenses whilst going to placements. You will be able to apply for a reduced rate student loan, and a non repayable monthly bursary.

    Re: Physiotherapy Degree
I was (am) 34 when I graduated - finished in May just gone. There were a lot of people in my year in their late 20's, 30's and 40's so don't stress about being the odd one out. I think that physio and other such courses attract more of a mature student group as people come to it later in life - I'm not sure I would have got through it all when I was 18 as I was too busy partying!

No job as of yet, but only got my HPC registration a couple of weeks back so it is still very early days. There are jobs coming up which is encouraging. There's no point in you worrying what it will all be like like in 4 years time as so much can change - will we even have an NHS! :-)

I'm currently working in private practice a couple of days a week doing massage primarily, so have got something at least. Have a look at the NHS jobs website for an idea of the current state of play.

    Hi there,
Im looking to apply for 2013 entry too. I already have a degree in health and am going to do the OU Human Biology course to aid my applications. I have been a physio assistant for the last 15months in elderly care and am just about to start another assistant job at the royal national orthopaedic hospital.

Im in two minds as to wheter to do the Msc or if I would get more out of the Bsc. Im hoping at least a few uni's will accept my application as I can't see myself doing anything else.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Can you do the MSc off being a PTA, or do you have another relevant degree? The 3 year BSc was manic so god knows how hard the MSc is. This book is quite a good place to start:

Iron mike, if the OP has a health degree which is a 2.1 or above then they will be eligible for the msc. the PTA job won't get you into an msc alone.
That's what I thought, but seemed like Iz_pta was suggesting that just being a PTA would be enough which confused me.

Sorry for any confusion Ironmike, I already have a health related degree that's why I was interested in doing the Msc.

    Re: Physiotherapy Degree
I have applied to Birmingham, Kings College, UWE, Liverpool and Southampton. Any one else applied to these??

So far I have got a reply from Birmingham only with an invitation to an individual interview on 28th November. Does any one have any tips for the interview or could tell me what your experience was like? Or an idea of things I need to take/prepare for?

Any information would be really helpful.
    Nervous but very excited!
    Good luck everyone!
