If you were asked to rate the genes you will pass on...
Out of 100 what would you say?
Imagine you were donating sperm/eggs and had to rate your genes across a few categories and assign yourself a score out of 100
Take into consideration intelligence, health, appearance, athleticism and whatever other ones you want within reason. Nothing ridiculous e.g. COD ability or you make the best pancakes in the land
I would rate myself 93 -
Re: If you were asked to rate the genes you will pass on...I rated myself in each of those areas, collated them and I have 71.25 out of 100 - not bad.(Original post by ROYP)

Re: If you were asked to rate the genes you will pass on...Depends how you interpret them. For example, athleticism. I am not a sporty person ... but my lung capacity is huge, my heart is good and with no serious family history of heart problems (grandfather died of a heart attack at the age of 56 because he refused to take his tablets on the basis that blood pressure tablets are for old people and he wasn't old(Original post by Dragonfly07)
Those are all things that most people acquire by upbringing. Just because you're good at something doesn't mean it's your genes.
but elsewhere is all clear and my mother is the same age now and absolutely fine), and my leg muscles are strong. If I had the inclination, I could be good at sports, so I would say that genetically my athleticism is good.

Re: If you were asked to rate the genes you will pass on...
Well I doubt intelligence is genetic, but for athleticism I'd rate them pretty low, I mean I'm decent but that's more down to personal effort. My lung capacity is terrible, when I place highly in a race, everyone else seems fine but the effort I put in, I'm practically fainting to be up there with them. haha I'm not entirely sure what is innately good about my genes, I'm a blank canvas quite average. The best of me is down to nurture.
Maybe a 70 overall, 100 for those dashing good looks

Re: If you were asked to rate the genes you will pass on...
Even though I am personally not good myself, I would still think my genes were good, so as a sperm donor I'd be somewhat decent. Maybe a discounted donor, haha. It depends on the person receiving I think. But if I had my own kids, it'd be with someone on my own level, and so they'd probably be a bit ****. :P But I don't want to have sex, and I don't want kids either so I think it's unlikely that I'm gonna ever need to be rated like this.
OP: surprised you rated yourself so highly (not because you're not that good, but it is a very high score, you'd probably get full marks if confidence was a category). I'm actually impressed that you put it so high though, because on an opening post that's probably bound to get you negged by insecure users or people who mistake self-belief for arrogance.
I think I'd rate highly for intelligence, but I'm not athletic, I'm not healthy atm and because of my skinniness and poor health I'm not very attractive. In terms of genes though, I have the genes to be average-looking, I think, and the genes to be healthy throughout life, but not necessarily fit.
It's an interesting question, but one I don't actually like thinking about. I guess I'd lose on confidence then.

Re: If you were asked to rate the genes you will pass on...
Probably about 50-60. There isn't one really big problem just a multitude of smaller things. I'm short, ginger (I don't consider that a negative but a lot of others may), not sporty (although if I got my fitness up I reckon I could be a good runner) or well-built and back/joint problems seem to run in the family. Other than that I'm not massively ugly, I seem to be doing well on an intellectual level and I'm generally healthy (got a good immune system) so not too bad.

6 ft 1, good chance of getting a first in my chemistry degree, green eyes, olive skin, near perfect teeth, no allergies, never ill, robust, always picked for team sports at school. I also have incredibly good eyesight.
I would say there are few better than me tbh. Defo top 5% if I'm being objective (which I am, it's not like I did anything to earn such fortunate genetics).
EDIT: Maybe knock down to top 10% as I had a lazy eye that had to be corrected as a kid. FML.Last edited by Aramiss18; 30-07-2012 at 22:20. -
Re: If you were asked to rate the genes you will pass on...
I'm not one of those geniuses that understand everything in milliseconds but looking at my performance in school, I think I was pretty good at general education. Except for PE, I was ****

Like art. Want to draw, make animated movies. Want to build crap.
Got aspergers. Tall, big build (not as in strong). Score that how you will. -
Re: If you were asked to rate the genes you will pass on...
I'd give myself about 60. Probably a minus figure on appearance though, as I'm a mirror breaker.
Forget intelligence, as my Aspergers has a bit to do with it. I enjoy learning about stuff that isn't interesting: EU, economics, non-league football, the world of beer, railways, history etc. I wouldn't get rid for a second though, as I've a condition and I have to live with it.
Health, generally have good health but worry far too much about it.
Athleticism, I'm a physically fit person although at 6ft and 10 stone I should be! I'm not gifted in anything but I have decent enough stamina/fitness. I've walked the Pennine Way and Coast2Coast. As long as I don't encounter a pub along the way I can walk all day.
The family drinking gene is one I quite like, there's a very good record of drinking and living long. I don't drink a lot often and when I do, I know when to stop and have happily never thrown up everywhere/being a refused a drink/being refused entry to any premises/had a fight. Its a fact. I can't help it. **** the embarrassing facebook messages though! Too much dutch courage!!
I'd ditch the gene that makes me forgetful and lose stuff, although its probably aspergers related.Last edited by ChapelTom; 30-07-2012 at 22:31.
