Yeah I'm with you to be honest, the black alloys and white body thing is kind of overdone. Also looks a bit drug dealer-eque, although black with black alloys is worse for that. :P I thought the white would look really plain in person but it's a really bright white, it's great, so I'll consider that as an option.

Small world eh? They do look great in person, the big arches and quad exhausts really set it apart from the normal 1 series. I like the white ones, just not a fan of black alloys
Sounds like you need to go and have a go in one! They have a lot of power, but the beauty of the M cars is when you drive them normally (well, the E92 M3 I drove) they feel like any other car so having all that power under your right foot isn't really a problem.
What car do you drive at the moment?
I'm gonna arrange with the guy I know to take a shot go in his as soon as possible. That's good to know re the power. Currently what I drive is the polar opposite of a 1M. Bought a new mini back when I passed my test and just kept it ever since, been looking at getting a new for nearly 2 years now. Getting so bored of it, it's fun to have a blast in one but decent handling is all it really has to offer. ^^

I don't really understand why you're on your high horse. It's nice that you bought your car and enjoy it but what has that got to do with anything? The beauty of money is that you get to do whatever the hell you want on it. If someone want's a gallardo and lives in a shed then it's nothing to do with you. Of course, you're entitled to your opinion, but it's off topic. Not that it's really any of your business but my career choice means that I'm unlikely to be in this location for long, so investing money in a house in an city I don't want to live permanently wouldn't exactly be a good idea.

Not at all, I have a **** car and I LOVE it, because it gets me where I want to go, whenever I want. I worked hard for it, with my part-time job alongside my degree and paid for it entirely myself including insurance, so it makes it all the more sweeter. I don't need a new car, the people that come in my bangor (my amazing friends) make it an enjoyable experience.
It's just really funny when people have an awesome car and a **** house, like someone I know who has a lotus but lives in a 2 bedroom terrace.

Thanks for all the posts guys. A bit of an update on this thread. Driven one a few times now both the family friends and a dealers and I absolutely love the car! The car has such usable performance because of the torque. Even caught in the wrong gear the car really moves. Doesn't feel as planted as a cayman through the bends but overall it feels like a lot more fun.
The downsides is that BMW seem to be completely washing their hands of the key programming issue. I spoke to the manager of the M division at BMW in Edinburgh and he gave such a generic answer like 'all modern cars suffer from this, mercedes and audi do too, if a thief wants your car they will get it no matter what.' I wasn't really satisfied with that answer. To an extent I agree that if someone is really determined to steal your car, they will, but this security glitch is unacceptable. It's making it way too easy to steal these cars. In the video that is floating about the cars alarm didn't even go off. He basically implied that BMW were working on a fix but nothing is likely to happen any time soon.
What do you guys think regarding colour? I've seen them all in the flesh now and to be honest I like them all. The Valencia orange is quite a cool colour but I have a feeling that I may get tired of it in a few months time; it is also more likely to attract attention which I'm not sure I want. The white is quite striking but the black really has presence, looks quite menacing and contrary to what I expected actually makes the car look really wide. Buying black would be cheaper too as that's the colour my family friend has, but I've found some nice dealer examples too.
