Got so anxious before interview that I started shaking.
I had a job interview today, probably my 6th one that I've been to over the past few months. Most of the ones before have been fine, I've been able to speak clearly and confidently about myself and have been given good feedback.
A few months ago I used to suffer horribly with anxiety, and depression, although have completely changed in the last few months and now usually feel confident in myself.
Last night I started getting that knotted feeling in my stomach but I was able to distract myself and ignore my nerves. But this morning when I was on the way to the interview I was literally shaking as I was so scared. When I went into the small office I felt ok but as I was being told about the job role I completely clammed up and felt like I was un able to talk, luckily she didn't ask me very questions and just asked about possible start dates.
She said she would phone me back by tomorrow evening to discuss a trail day at the end of the week, and even the though of her phoning is scaring me, even though she was a really kind person.
It's really shot my confidence down as I finally thought that I was moving forward in my life and then I just get hit by anxiety and it's knocked me more then it probably should have.
Has this happened to anyone else before and do you have any tips of how to deal with it better? -
Re: Got so anxious before interview that I started shaking.
Anon for reasons.
I have this as well. I've just finished university a few weeks ago and have since had about four job interviews. I also suffer from a bit of anxiety especially in new situations. The first two interviews were not so bad but the last two have resulted in me crying, shaking, feeling sick and having a full blown panic attacks. Normally I'm a confident person in most situations but I would also have to agree that the anxiety has knocked me down. I'm also afraid of the anxiety that I will have in the days leading up to the start of a job. This had led me to feel so low and somewhat depressed. I went to my GP about two weeks ago and was given a prescription for a beta blocker called propranolol which is suppose to help with the physical symptoms of the anxiety. The first week I took them I felt horrible but the week after I feel so much better and less anxious. They have stopped the full blown panic attacks and I'm now looking into attending an interview in the next week or so and feel much better prepared. If you believe it is a problem I would go to your GP and try them.
