just out of interest how did you get your A2 results so early?? which year did you skip?
She's 5th year which means she's Scottish - highers and ad highers rather than A Levels!

Re: Being 17 in uni :@My mate is really clever (he skipped year 8) so he is going to be 17 at uni - I mean Cambridge.(Original post by Muscovite)

Re: Being 17 in uni :@
I was 17 when I started and it wasn't much of a problem. I couldn't buy alcohol but just got my friends to do it. Clubs are no problem if you have a suitable ID, so perhaps a relative or a generous friend? I'm asian (and since we all look the same) so that wasn't really an issue for me.

Re: Being 17 in uni :@Have you considered taking a gap year? This would seem perfect for you in my opinion, you do a year of travelling or working or whatever, and gain some great experiences, and enter uni at an age where you can go clubbing and do what everyone else can.(Original post by Kgarratley)
But I really am interested in going out... It sucks I won't be 18. Will I still actually get into the places?

My friend started uno when he was 17. He said you will get into the student union and stuff with your student card but you cant buy drink. Just get a friend to do it. Although, he said if your caught your card will be banned from use for a while :/
What uni you going to?

Re: Being 17 in uni :@
Me too! If you're going to a Scottish uni, don't worry, half my friends are 17 as well, so there'll be a lot more people who are 17 at uni than you'd think, and one guy in my year (despite being a 6th year) is 16. I worry about him actually. He's really smart but starting uni so young isn't going to be fun for him. As for ID and stuff, no idea, I'm having the same trouble as you. I'm going to uni in England though, most people will assume I'm 18 if I'm with other students I hope.

Re: Being 17 in uni :@If you are really concerned about this, then you could afford to take a gap year. You could work for a certain amount of time and live frugally, saving up your wages, then spend the money on travelling. You could easily work for, say, 10 months and travel for two.(Original post by Kgarratley)
If I had the money, I would in an instant! And also my course has stopped deferring entry and really don't feel like saying no to a uni place ATM haha

If you do decide to go aged 17 you won't be the only one. Almost all other Scots will be 17 when they start, and there are plenty of people who skipped years in school, so will be 17 or younger. Not being able to drink legally (and not having ID) will undoubtedly have an effect on your evenings out, that can't be denied. But it's not insurmountable - plenty of places don't ID, or accept a student card only for a student night, etc. You could get round it if you do want to go to university straight away.
