I don't know how to convey this, but I think I have a prejudice against Muslims. It's not to Al Qaeda, before anybody says anything. I'm sensible enough to know that not every Muslim is a terrorist.

It's just that most Muslims I meet in the UK are so rigid, absolutist, and closed-minded. They cannot tolerate difference in opinion or conception, and for some reason seem to despise relativity (which is inherent in humans since everyone is different). I remember in VI Form College, if there was a class discussion, some Muslim person would cite some really hardline opinion/standpoint, as if they wanted to force all others to conform to his view of normalcy.

And with 40% of UK Muslims wanting Sharia law, it makes me think. These people only see things via a rod and a fist, and frankly that's not my conception of a healthy/balanced person.

I do feel guilty sometimes, since there was this girl I liked last year at uni. But when I found out she was Muslim, she went from 9 in looks to about a 3 lol..

Flame me if you will, it's just an honest viewpoint.

Hi,
I am a Muslim and i can see where you are coming from and totally understand your point of view... But for me I like to listen to other people's point of view and for me its very important to listen to others... Sometimes there are things i might have a strong opinion on but i tend to keep it to myself as i believe that i have no right to thrust my opinion on others...
But i do have some friends who have very strong opinons and will try to force you to conform or they just get upset but i just wanted to tell you that not Muslims are like that and that I am sorry if you feel that way...

You sound like my nan haha, some people do think like you do. I know what you mean, some muslims are quite rigid but then some christians are, the majority that i know are all lovely, one in particular is the most kind person I've ever met!
I think it applies to all religions, think of the nut cases in America that go around wanting all 'fags' being killed, because 'God hates fags'. They force their opinion on people too.

I guess living in the UK, Muslims are a minority, and so they tend to stick out a bit more, and are less understood. This is not to say that yes, some are annoying, they're persistant and it feels like they just want to butt heads with whatever you say, but as a previous comment mentioned, this happens in other religions too, but added with the fact that they are the minority, they're a bit more obvious and out of place.

The problem however is that not all Muslims are the same, in the way that not all people that have been Christened are the same. One Christian will want to spread the word of God, another will not really be bothered.

By grouping them together, you get one image of "Muslims", and find it easy to think of them as one unit, "these people". Unless you make an effort to look at them as just ordinary people that ****, shave, and shower in the morning, and go about their days like everyone else, and meet some that are not so in your face, breaking the stereotype will be hard

It's understandable where you are coming from .

Just try to keep those views from affecting how you interact with muslims. Each one of us is different and who knows, you might find a great friend in a muslim or miss a great opportunity based on a simple generalisation.

On the other hand you can just refrain from interacting with muslims, if you want. As long as you still act respectfully towards them and be nice in general then you should be fine

Whilst it may not be right (imo) I can't help but respect you for having the balls to post this OP. However you should bear in mind that not every single Muslim will have the views that you disagree with, try to keep an open mind as much as possible.

To the OP not all Muslims are like that. I have many Muslim friends and they are very liberal, independent and keep their beliefs to themselves.

Honestly I get what you mean, but you can't tell me that a girl went from 9 to 3 in "looks" because of her religion, because that makes no sense whatsoever. A person's physical appearance does not change just because you found out that she's a Muslim.
