How can I respectfully tell my parents I want to make my own decisions
And do my own thing? For instance my parents are quite strict about boys and I want to go on holiday with my boyfriend - I'm 18 and while I know I can't really disobey them by doing things under their roof because I still live with them, and I respect that, I want to be able to do what I want apart from that. I know they wont like it but I'm going anyway, I just want them to understand its because I'm my own person and don't want to follow all of their rules anymore

    1. Encourage cordial relations between them and your boyfriend/his family

    2. Look to mediators e.g. uncles/aunts and grandparents, they may be able to help soften the blow

Well you should also find common ground. If you've been with your boyfriend for one week, it wouldn't totally be the best thing to go on holiday. If you've been in a relationship for years, then clearly you have developed a strong bond and trust, and it should be easier for your parents to understand.
