Its July/August - too late to apply for sixth form colleges?
I'm not allowed to go onto 2nd year of my current college due to attendance + being down to 2 AS's.
I applied for a college, went to an induction day like mid-July and they said they were no longer offering my chosen courses?? even though they said they did in the interview, which is why i didn't apply elsewhere.
Theres a college which are doing interviews on the 29th August, even if i haven't sent an application, but they say:
You will need to bring with you a completed application form if you have not already submitted one. It is vital that this includes a reference from your school. The college will not be able to process your application without a reference.
I can't get hold of a reference from my school now because it's summer and its not open.

Re: Its July/August - too late to apply for sixth form colleges?err.. no it opens on the 7th September.(Original post by Mockery)
School will surely be open by the 29th, for you to get your reference, no?
Plus, are you even interested much in college or just doing it because you feel you have to? Never seen anyone kicked out for poor attendence before.
It's just that the college has high standards and attendance should be 90%+ (mine was 85%), but put with the fact that i was down to 2 A levels gave them 2 reasons.
I'm quite a smart person, but really lazy. Not interested really (always can't wait for end of lessons, but who isn't like that), but yeah, i want to go university, so i don't want to get out of education yet. -
Re: Its July/August - too late to apply for sixth form colleges?Well I'm extremely laid back and care free yet managed to stay ontop of my studies, although could have done better.(Original post by Savannahh)

I wouldn't be sure as to how you could obtain a reference from your school then, I would of assumed school to be open near the end of August in preparation for the beginning of the term.
Get in touch with whichever college you are applying for and ask them about it directly.. -
Re: Its July/August - too late to apply for sixth form colleges?
Are there any open days at your college? You might be able to find someone then.
It's worth checking that your new college will accept your attendance, too, because it might be mentioned on the reference. Wanting 90% isn't a lot - my college wanted 95%, and you'd be called in for meetings if it got below 97%.
Other than that, try emailing your tutors, or find an alternate reference (employer/old school teacher) that you could offer at the interview, along with a school reference later on.
