Re: Do you think Yi Shiwen cheated in the 400m for swimming?NO. I'm feeling very sorry for her now. Bet she's wishing she hadn't done so well because then she would never have been accused of cheating.... :/(Original post by UglyBarbie)
do you think it was something that it enhanced her performance? -
Re: Do you think Yi Shiwen cheated in the 400m for swimming?
It is certainly suspicious that she broke her PB in mammoth style and swum faster than Ryan Lochte, but I think it is best to wait for the results to come out and then discuss.
China is renowned for their ridiculous preparation so on one hand she could be this good, yet on the other Chinese swimming has had some history of doping. -
Re: Do you think Yi Shiwen cheated in the 400m for swimming?
Just because she is Chinese and at 16 beat the world record? Seriously, the Chinese even work much harder than you lazy lot! I don't think she was on steroids. If it was a British 16 year old female, none of you would have questioned her on whether she had drugs or not, you would treat her as a hero! Let her bask in her own glory. I'd like to see you lazy fools attempt what that Chinese woman did.

Talks a lot of sense about the situation.
Key things:
- "asking the question is NOT the same as pronouncing someone guilty"
- "Regarding the Chinese, an interesting stat I saw today is that since 1990, China has produced 40 failed doping tests in swimming. That is three times more than the next highest country. The latest of those positives comes earlier this year, when a number of junior swimmers tested positive for EPO." -
Re: Do you think Yi Shiwen cheated in the 400m for swimming?a lithuanian swimmer of 15 who trains in plymouth and goes to school there got a gold medal yesterday in the 100m breast stroke. Do you think she cheated too?(Original post by veniceswan)
I think she might have cheated, she is 16 and this is not possible for such a young athlete to have such score. -

Re: Do you think Yi Shiwen cheated in the 400m for swimming?Maybe a little bit harsh the way you phrased it. The Chinese have a very strong work ethic and put the hours into their craft. People such as pianist Yuja Wang and swimmers Sun Yang and Ye Shiwen are trained from a very young age and work. What I don't get is the automatic assumption that doping is involved with a 16 year old year just because she broke a WR.(Original post by The Marshall)

Re: Do you think Yi Shiwen cheated in the 400m for swimming?
She comes out of nowhere, beats her PB before the Olympics by 5 seconds now, the WR is beaten by 1 second. She is 16. (That Lithuanian girl didn't come close to the WR).
Yea right she didn't dope. Clean tests now don't prove anything. You can dope as much as you want in training if your national doping agency doesn't test you and you don't go to events it won't be noticed. -

- The performance was exceptional. In sport, if things look too good to be true, they probably were
- The performance was out of line with her usual performance. She was exceptional last year - performing incredibly at the world championships, but now she's improved by a huge leap. (And clearly had more left in the bag, otherwise why the fast last leg?)
- The Chinese have a history of doping in swimming.
- Women's swimming has a history of doping. -
Re: Do you think Yi Shiwen cheated in the 400m for swimming?
The US coach that has accused her of cheating should be ashamed of themselves. You come across looking like one hell of a sore loser when you do it. You can't go around accusing people when your only evidence is, "She swam real fast". It's disrespectful and irresponsible.
