Re: Shall I notify UCAS about resiting another module?
    (Original post by EffieFlowers)
I honestly had no idea. Will it be updated in time?

Do I need to notify my uni choices as well?

    Ohh dear D:
Ask UCAS for their advice on that one.

My school entered me for General Studies AS Level after I had applied to university and received my offers, but I haven't notified UCAS or my universities. Do I have to send out emails alerting them of the change now as I'm worried that the discrepancy between the subjects I said I'd done and the actual exams I took might slow down the matching of my grades to my name.

Talk to UCAS tomorrow morning and ask their advice.

Can someone whos experienced this or knows how it works, run through the steps clearly for the day for any anticipated fails. So if I dont meet my necessary grades, I find the course and uni on the day in clearing (i think the daily mail will have it or the ucas site, right?), and then do I just simply call up the respective universities' admissions office, and just ask for a place?

Will I just need all my UCAS details, and nothing else? Surely, they can take all relevant info from there, right?

Read the first post of this thread and you'll see that this issue is covered in detail. There are then links which give you even more info - if you read those and then have further questions come back and ask then.

The Daily Mail will not have clearing lists, the only official lists are The Telegraph and UCAS. Again, this info is linked to in the first post and also in the clearing/results tool bar on the right hand side of your screen.

Results day - What's going to happen
    I get taking:
Mobile phone (charged and topped up)
    Pen/pencil
    Writing paper/notepad

    Maybe even:
Calculator (in case something goes wrong and your modules aren't added up)
Results slips from AS (ditto, and also in case you need to phone a uni and plead you can say "but I got X on these modules")
UCAS/uni letter (so you've got all your info including UCAS number handy, and also so you don't panic thinking "was my offer AAAA or AAAa")
Contact details for your firm and insurance

    But why do we need:
Copy of personal statement and your reference if you have it
Contact details for your referee (and if you think it's likely you'll go into Clearing permission from your referee to pass on their details to universities)

My referee's were my teachers so i don't have their contact details, it happened through the school and i just double checked it.

    What is everyone bringing?
And how are you preparing for clearing?
    Thanks, i'm scared

Because if you need to talk to unis on the phone they'll want to know why you want to do that subject - and you've already written your ideas down nicely in your PS. If you're put on the spot you might panic and end up saying "um, um, oooh, because I like it!" or other such rubbish which will ruin your chances.

And if the uni needs persuading, you can say your referee said this that and the other. You can even offer to email them a copy of your reference, which might be quicker than them viewing it through UCAS, and if you have the contact details then the uni can verify it themselves. Even if it was just sorted through school you have the school details - which are the contact details of your referee.

Are you really incapable of adding up a few numbers without the aid of a calculator?

    But why do we need:
    Copy of personal statement
To remind you what you wrote, as the admissions tutors you speak to may have it in front of them. The other stuff is useless if you don't have details of what is in clearing from the newspapers.

Hey guys, on the UCAS website it says students with a changed offer course are not eligible for adjustment. I was just wondering what a changed offer course was exactly? If your university were to give you an offer for a course you didn't apply for before you chose your firm and insurance would that be considered a changed offer result? Because I read that it's when you don't get the grades for your offer and your university changes your course on results day so I was just wondering if your course was changed before you were to firm anything and you exceeded the grades on that course if you would be eligible for adjustment?

No, that's not a changed course offer :nah:

Exactly. You miss your offer but they offer you a place on a different course, which you don't have to accept.

so I was just wondering if your course was changed before you were to firm anything and you exceeded the grades on that course if you would be eligible for adjustment?
Yes, you would be eligible for Adjustment in that case :yep:

Ahh okay thank you so much! that's good to hear, I was a bit worried that because the course did change from what I originally applied for I wouldn't be okay to use adjustment, thank you!

    Hello all,

This seems like a really good place for me to seek some advice from you all.

Like everybody, as this thread has stated, i'm positive i've failed my exams and university is far out of my reach. For weeks i've been debating what on earth I should be doing with my life after thursday. I've got an offer from KCL to do medicine, AAA are my required grades. Medicine is my dream, but I know i've got to be realistic about things.

If I do miss my offer, what should the lowest my grades should be for me to bother reapplying and standing a chance? I'm not sure, i'm hoping somebody can clear this up, but i'm pretty confident I have extenuating circumstances. Over my AS exams, June 2011, I was admitted to hospital with appendicitis and missed 7 exams. I sat these in January and unfortunately ended up damaging my c-spine, I couldn't move my neck and I was in a lot of pain throughout my exams .. bad luck, eh?! So anyway, did a lot of catch up this summer! Worked so so hard but of course, i'm terrified I haven't made it.

I would really appreciate anything anybody could offer me? Say I get BBB? Or BBC? Unrealistic?

Thank you all so much, and good luck everybody! x

I really worried about something, I did 4 A levels and I didn't turn up for the final exam of the 4th A level (Chemistry) because: I panicked, wanted to focus on doing well on my other 3 more important (and relevant to what I want to do) subjects and because my offer only asks for 3 a levels so there will be an X by that final module...as long as I get ABB on the other three, will this matter?

Thanks for that. The list was on the preparation page for getting results. I copied and pasted everything it mentioned, with one of those being a calculator.

If you are asking if it is worth re-applying through clearing to a course that you accepted an offer for (that you didn't meet), no. If you mean you were rejected at an earlier stage but now have the academic requirements needed and wish to try again, yes.

have you already sent details of your extenuating circumstances to the unis/exam boards If not, get a letter from your gp and one from from your school that you can send to the unis if you miss your grades. they are busy considering people right now as they got our results at the weekend. if they have details of your ext circs, they can look at that before thursday and before they get 100s of phonecalls.
