University Student Support Structures
Hiya,
I'm a student studying in Scotland and going into my second year. I noticed in my first year that, although our uni had nightline like a lot of unis do, there is not really a student support structure for drinking or anything similar. This seemed odd to me because I knew a couple of people who seemed to have problems with drinking - to the extent that on a scary night out the paramedics had to be called for one of them.
I'm not saying everyone has problems with alcohol, and I'm not saying getting drunk is a bad thing (I drink myself, and enjoy going out, so no abuse please!) it's just I think some people come to uni, having not drunk before and then have a bit of a bad attitude towards it or find they are more dependent on it than is healthy.
This year I'd like to do something to promote a healthy attitude to alcohol (I know, I'm probably going to become really popular because of this [/sarcasm]), or at least do SOMETHING to help those who may get into a situation whilst drunk that they don't know what to do.
I was hoping to get some ideas, so was wondering if people could share what their universities have in place (if anything) for this sort of thing, or what you think could improve the structures already in place?
Thanks in advance
