Re: Triangle QuestionHow do you get the region of points at a distance of 4 or less from B?(Original post by zed963)
What topic does this question come from and how do I do the question shown below.
Spoiler:Show
Disc, centre B radius 4
How do get the region of points closer to AC than to AB?
Spoiler:Show
Bisect the angle BAC, region on the AC side
The question is asking to shade the intersection of both these regions. -
Re: Triangle Question
The topic is loci.
Points that are 4 centimetres from B form a circle (radius 4cm) around B so points less that 4cm are inside this circle.
The points the same distance from AC and AB lie on the bisector (use a compass) of the angle BAC. So points closer to AC must lie...
Can you work out the rest and find the region?
Does any of this sound familiar to you? -

Re: Triangle QuestionThe topic is Loci, I think.
You have to bisect the angle BAC.
Use a pair of compasses to draw an arc 4cm away from the point B.
See this tutorial on how to bisect an angle:

Re: Triangle QuestionWikipedia: An angle bisector divides the angle into two angles with equal measures. An angle only has one bisector. Each point of an angle bisector is equidistant from the sides of the angle.(Original post by zed963)
I didn't understand the second one.
You're cutting the angle into two equal angles. The points of the bisector are equidistant from both lines. The points on the right side of the bisector are closer to the line on the right, the ones on the left are closer to the line on the left. -

Re: Triangle QuestionYes. Use the video in usycool's post to help you.(Original post by zed963)

Did you not learn these things in school? A topic like loci makes much more sense when demonstrated by a teacher. -

Yes. Use the video in usycool's post to help you.

Re: Triangle QuestionOh I didn't know that.(Original post by zed963)
I'm teaching my self.
If you don't mind me asking: how old are you and why are you self-teaching? -

Re: Triangle QuestionIt's currently summer holidays in the UK.(Original post by notnek)
But why don't you have a teacher? -
Re: Triangle QuestionOh so you do have a teacher that should've taught you loci before the holidays?(Original post by zed963)
It's currently summer holidays in the UK.
Loci is also taught in Y9 so you should have had some practice before. -
