Re: Want to be good at rugby, what routine should I follow? Can I do starting strength, but 8-10 reps instead of 5?(Original post by tooosh)
Starting Strength, HIIT and plyometric work.
You're pretty heavy for your size, so a back would be my guess but I don't play rugby. -
Re: Want to be good at rugby, what routine should I follow?then it's not starting strength lol(Original post by Fresh Prince of)

Re: Want to be good at rugby, what routine should I follow?not building as much muscle in 5 reps(Original post by desijut)
then it's not starting strength lol -
Re: Want to be good at rugby, what routine should I follow? It's called staerting STRENTGH. It's not a mass building program. And at your height and weight, I'm sure you don't need to gain more(Original post by Fresh Prince of)

Re: Want to be good at rugby, what routine should I follow?Whatever you do, don't play any actual rugby. It's a waste of time you could spend lifting weights and focusing on your diet.(Original post by Fresh Prince of)
To increase my stamina, fitness and strength? Also, never played rugby, what would be the idea position for a 5'10.5 86KG person based on that info alone? -
Re: Want to be good at rugby, what routine should I follow?Do you want to be good at rugby, or just have the physique of a rugby player? (srs)(Original post by Fresh Prince of)

Re: Want to be good at rugby, what routine should I follow? Thanks, can you tell me what are the plyometric exercises are?(Original post by sambrfc10)
From your height and weight stats, you sound like a flanker to me. Best way to improve is not to focus just on muscle. Running is just as important in rugby so balance being in the gym with running or cycling.

Re: Want to be good at rugby, what routine should I follow?I doubt you'll manage that considering you've never played before.(Original post by Fresh Prince of)

Re: Want to be good at rugby, what routine should I follow?
I would concentrate more on rugby skills and understanding the game rather than physical attributes. I played in the first team at my uni without doing any exercise except for matches and training. If you have a reasonable level of aerobic fitness then you can play at first team level if you have the technical skills. Strength helps a little but just knowing what you are supposed to be doing on the pitch is a million times more useful.

Re: Want to be good at rugby, what routine should I follow?Utter rubbish. You obviously don't have the faintest idea of what you're talking about, mate.(Original post by vedderfan94)
You can't "become" good at sport. You're either good or not from the start. That's like asking "How can I play as good as Lionel Messi?".
