    need help justifying an ipad
    Hi,
I really really really want an ipad, although i know they can be quite handy for uni and what not the bottom line is i dont need it. But i really want one, anyone got any good reasons to buy one?
they are great for anatomy and physiology, i think there is even a ECG recognition app on the app store so i am highly tempted.

They're more like an expensive toy. In terms of actual usefulness for education they have little value. For the same price you can purchase a much better laptop.

I really really really want an ipad - there's your justification right there...what else/what other reason do u need?

    u want one? get one...

u already know it's never gonna be as practical as a laptop but, that's not the point of an ipad, so why not just get it and enjoy it for what it is?

i want one too btw, but am gonna hold off till i see how my desktop and a cheapo small laptop plays out for me...may treat maself at christmas tho

I also have to say despite being fairly useless in terms of usefulness it is a very fun toy.

Why not wait for an iphone 5 (september/october) with the bigger screen and get a laptop? The ipad is just good for apps...and most of them you can get them on the iphone anyway.

There aren't really any particular reasons why you need anything, especially an iPad to be honest. But if you really want one and can afford it then there you go, reason enough.

Reading journal articles, saves a lot on printing. You can also highlight important bits, it is also much lighter and more portable than a laptop.

I'm thinking of getting one too and my excuses are: they are good if you can't get on a computer in the library and need to use the internet for googling and stuff and if you get a stylus for it you can write on it like a notepad (probably not as easy as using an actual notepad) but its another reason I guess. They also have a good organiser/calender thing on them and special apps like student timetables etc (I know phones do this but it's a bigger screen so you can see it!)

For the price, an ipad is one of the biggest rip offs.

Another reason: an ipad is way lighter and thinner than a laptop so it's easier to carry everywhere :P

But if you already have a laptop then you get the best of both worlds all the benefits of a laptop and all the benefits of an Ipad (even though everyone well why do you need both) I'm still trying to come up with a reason for that one!

The iPad always confused me, I don't quite understand where the market for it is. Assuming you already have a laptop and a smartphone as most sutdents tend to have these days, there is pretty much no use for it.

You don't NEED an Ipad, but Apple are the masters of marketing. They could probably sell Eskimos ice.
