Leave Chi Alone!
Right, so after living her whole life being told to go faster, now she's been told she went too fast? Leave her alone!
Would the winner of Formula One appreciate being told "well done and that, but youve got a speeding ticket"?
Does no one else agree with me, she should be allowed a bit of privacy! -
Re: Leave Chi Alone!Privacy? No one is talking about her privat life, love affairs or friends - it's about her 'achievements' in sports.(Original post by avig613)

A 16 year old girl (from a country notorious for systematic doping) swimming faster than the world's fastest men? No way ...

Re: Leave Chi Alone!OT but when Schumacher/Ferrari were dominating from 2000-2004 the FIA changed the regulations every year to try and stop them from winning. Took them until 2005 to succeed.(Original post by avig613)

Re: Leave Chi Alone!Except she didn't swim faster than the world's fastest men.. She beat Lochte in the last 50 m.. Lochte went out hard to get an edge early on Phelps, while Ye paced herself for the last 50 m, and even then she just marginally beat him.(Original post by Sir Fox)

Re: Leave Chi Alone! So? How is beating Lochte on the last 50m not swimming temporarily faster than the world's fastest man? I didn't say she is overall superior to this guy.(Original post by Karaiyar)

Re: Leave Chi Alone!Rebecca Adlington did a similar thing, last year.(Original post by Sir Fox)

After the 800m individual freestyle, she posted a 28.91. The Ye 28.93. and Lochte did 29.10, with Lochte and Ye doing half the distance. Different strokes, admittedly, but you wouldn't see people screaming how Adlington doped if something similar had happened.
Fact is, this Chinese girl saved some in the tank for the last 50m and Lochte took his foot off the pedal. He went from beating WR pace, to 2 seconds behind it. It's not like she smashed any records either, she was still a full second behind OR pace. It just means her swimming tactics involve her saving it for a final sprint, as she did yesterday with her second gold.Last edited by Tabris; 01-08-2012 at 15:12. -
Re: Leave Chi Alone! It's a ridiculous stat though.(Original post by Sir Fox)

The 400 IM is not the sort of event where you go flat out for the whole thing. Lochte knew he needed to bury Phelps on the back and breast, so he put his foot down and did. He will have been almost totally spent by the time he hit that last wall, Ye clearly decided to win it on the free and thus went out pretty controlled before going hard on the free.
If her last split is faster than whoever, likely Phelps or Lochte, wins the men's 200 IM tomorrow that would be more shocking.
