Hair removal for women
I have always shaved using a disposable razor. It is cheap and simple but it never lasts that long. I usually have to shave every other day and I don't have the time to do this regularly. What type of hair removal do you use and how often do you use it? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the product you use?
Thanks

Re: Hair removal for womenI had a look online and read that getting waxed in a salon lasts 4-6 weeks! That is pretty long. That means that I don't have to worry about it for ages, but it costs approx £20 per leg. I am thinking about that but it is expensive. I also had a read on the Veet website and there are so many products that it just overwhelms me reading it. I might try the spray on hair removal cream.(Original post by xoxAngel_Kxox)
I am the same, so posting incase anyone has advice. I fancy trying epilation but am a bit wary of buying one incase it hurts too much and I only ever use it once! -
The cheapest and most effective way I am currently using is Nair hair removal cream. It's raspberry fragrance and does what it says it will do. Used it about 5 days ago on my legs and they are still smooth.
How much did I pay I hear you say lol... 99p as it's from the 99p store! For that price the results are great

Re: Hair removal for women
I'd never use an epilator again after the last time I did, got the worst shaving rash I've ever had and it lasted days
My legs looked red raw!
I'm the same as you OP, I just shave but it is annoying that it grows back so quickly. If I had the guts I'd wax, but I'd get a professional to do it. I've tried the shop bought strips though, and they don't seem to work too well... they say you have to have your leg hair quite long for it to work but the whole point in doing it is to avoid having long hairs in the first place, soo..

Re: Hair removal for womenWaxing yourself if better as it's cheaper, and I find that it's somehow less painful as well.(Original post by hali0112)

Re: Hair removal for womenThis is what I want to avoid. I like wearing shorts and skirts and my hair grows so quickly(Original post by boba)
if you wax your own legs it will last that long to..
the problem with waxing however is having to wait for enough regrowth to wax again, so you have some not so smooth days.
Which brand of shop bought strips did you use? it just seems like a lot of effort but I guess I don't mind the effort if the effects last longer(Original post by Sazzy890)

Re: Hair removal for womenI've never tried waxing, does it take long and is it complicated to do?(Original post by LeaX)
Waxing is the best. The first 2-3 times you do it it hurts but then you get used to the pain and it doesn't hurt at all to be honest. It lasts ages too. -
Re: Hair removal for women
i tried waxing at home, i couldn't bring myself to do it - it just seemed like a massive strip on my leg, and i'd have to really rip it off to get it off, i felt like i was ripping off my skin!
i tried hair removal cream which eventually gave some fairly good results but i'm not satisfied with it. the bits that came off were really smooth and lasted a while but it left random patches that didn't seem to work, even when i left it on longer than the recommended time.
i tried epilating and found that although it was a bit painful at first, after a while the pain faded - it's like plucking your eyebrows, after a while it's just numb. my legs were red for about 15mins afterwards and then looked beautiful. i think it's the best thing i've tried!
i still usually just shave because it takes way less time than any of the other methods. and also i struggle with using any other methods in other places than my legs! -
Re: Hair removal for womenthe first couple of times you wax it might not last that long but then as you keep doing it it lasts longer inbetween. I have no idea why. Also the hairs don't really need to be long enough that you could see them unless you were pretty close it just wont feel smooth.(Original post by hali0112)

also I use either veet strips or some that look like the packaging is in the same sort of style as veet but all the writing is in some sort of chinese looking language with a veet sticker on the front.(they are from a 99p store and work just as well) I've tried proper tubs of wax and stuff but I just made a big mess and failed buying the strips is so much easier. -
Re: Hair removal for women
I used to find Nair would really sting my legs and would never, ever remove the hair properly. Veet was much, much better.
However, I got sick of how expensive it was getting because I swim 3 times a week, and the hairs would begin returning within at least 3 days, sometimes the following morning. So, I took the plunge and bought an epilator (don't trust myself with sharp objects so razors are a no go). It took me about 3 months to build up the courage but I bought it just after Christmas - it was about 70% off.
I bought a wet and dry one and I have to say it is definitely worth the extra cost, especially if you're worried about it hurting. I am a complete wimp (no, really) but to be honest, I only thought it hurt the first time (although, epilating underarms still hurts but I'm getting used to it
). Now I'm fine with epilating my legs, so I would definitely recommend it. I'm quite lazy with it sometimes (only epilating around twice a month, if I get desperate I'll do it again) but to be honest the hair on my legs is a lot thinner than it used to be so it doesn't need doing much more often than that.

Re: Hair removal for women
I shave my underarms and legs with a disposable razor. I shave my underarms every couple of days, but I only shave my legs if they are going to be seen (i'm really lazy lol). My mum always tells me I should epilate or use an electric razor on my legs so I don't cut myself (although she accepts this isn't a viable option for underarms as your underarms never get dry enough for epilation and dry shaving) but I don't because epilation sounds painful, a big fuss, takes too long and may miss bits and electric razors don't achieve a very good result.
I don't wax because it sounds painful and it seems probable that I would miss bits. I don't use hair removal cream because they are apparently really messy and smelly and I don't know if the chemicals are bad for your skin. -

It was some time ago now. But I found it in boots or superdrug I think and there are various brands out there. You may find that you like it but I personally didn't get on with it.

Re: Hair removal for women
I have very sensitive skin so shaving even my legs left them itchy and irritated no matter if I moisturised, exfoliated, or used posh shaving gells. I've been epilating for a year now and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. It hurt LOADS at the beginning but the pain is completely bearable now. It takes 20-30 to do my legs, so what I do is plug in my headphones and watch a tv episode and it's done.
Hair grows back in 2-4 weeks but it's much finer and more sparse than it was earlier. It's also free after the initial cost of the epilator.
I'd say that if you can tolerate a bit of pain it's worth it. -
Re: Hair removal for womenim about post 7 days and i have a lil 'stumble' now... so i think this will be my new method of hair removal. I can live with doing this once a week(Original post by hali0112)
wow! that sounds great! 5 days is good too. It's definitely better than having to shave every other day and the price is great too! Thanks

Re: Hair removal for womenIt takes a few minutes really. I always wax after a shower so my skin is nice and clean. I use Veet wax strips, you just warm them up by rubbing your hands together and it's so much easier than having to microwave wax and use an applicator, etc. Then afterwards I just clean my skin with baby oil then wash it with a gentle shower gel and cold water (stops redness) then put aloe vera gel or moisturiser on the area.(Original post by hali0112)
I've never tried waxing, does it take long and is it complicated to do?
