Breaking your leg does prior to the exams does not count as an extenuating circumstance, I'm afraid
It is going to be tough to get into a Sixth Form to do those subjects; most sixth forms require at least a grade B in the subject that you wish to study. Besides, you may struggle quite a bit in A-Level in those subjects. Why not just spend next year resitting your GCSEs rather than doing A-Level and then take your A-Levels in 2013/2014 after you get better GCSE results?

Sorry but I can't imagine any UK state school or college accepting you to study these subjects at A level. To be honest with only 3 A* to C grades (one of which I assume is the language you speak at home) most would not accept you for A level study at all (5 is usually the minimum). A private tutorial college (that you'd pay a lot for) might but they'd be irresponsible if they did because you will really struggle.
It's a long shot but if you could convince a school/college that your circumstances had a big impact on your results you might get into a BTEC Level 3 Engineering course. You'd need support and confirmation from your teachers. If you did really well, this could still lead on to university study of engineering.
Alternatively you might want to improve your GCSE results then take some time out to earn money & maybe get some relevant experience and then apply as a mature student for a foundation programme that leads to a degree.Last edited by gdunne42; 01-08-2012 at 09:04. -
Re: Urgent ! Help please !
You want to take Maths, Chemistry and Physics at A-Level when you've achieved U, U and D in those subjects? Why?
If anything I know people who have got top marks in those grades at GCSE and then struggled on the A-Level course. I think for your own confidence and subject enjoyment, you should review what you want to take at A-Level. In any event, I agree with the poster above, I think you'll struggle to find a state institution that will accept you to do those courses.
Perhaps, retake and then see? -

Thanks ! that hurt but wot u said sounds pretty helpful !i dont think any sixth from would accept me with these grades !But wot if i do my As here in Pakistan? Would any college accept me for A2 in england(London) ? -
Re: Urgent ! Help please !
I don't want to sound mean but those grades aren't great. Personally I'd recommend you not to go for an a-level if you can't cope with GCSEs. Compared to A-Levels, GCSEs are just like waking up in the morning.
You should try to get into a college, that I would recommend. Try a craft, they are good if you're a hands-on person
I have 10 GCSEs (9 A-C's) and I struggled at A-levels. I'm now doing what I love in college; Joinery
It was my best decision ever to start studying it. Thinking back I wouldn't have bothered with sixth form, I would have gone straight to college as now I have to fork out £1570 for my college course.
Whatever you do don't make the decisions I did and end up having to pay a bomb! -
Re: Urgent ! Help please !dude !i went to the exam on a wheelchair !!! i took three painkillers jusx before my maths paper ! and i didnt get to study a word ! i.e this is not my true ability, i can do better !(Original post by tommm)
Why were your GCSE grades in maths, physics and chemistry so poor? Do you think that they reflect your true ability? -
Re: Urgent ! Help please !I think, in that case, your best option would be to prove yourself by retaking your GCSEs and get good enough grades to get into sixth form and study A-Levels. Good luck!(Original post by Babar944)

Re: Urgent ! Help please !I wouldn't like to tell you not to do a-levels, I'd just recommend you not to if you didn't get good GCSE grades. They are really hard compared to GCSEs.. And I doubt you'd get into sixth form with them grades anyway. Most of them require at least 5 A-C's.(Original post by Babar944)
so you are suggesting me not to do Alevels ?then what should i take ?thats equal to Alevels and leads me to a good engineering Uni !
You do know a lot of colleges offer engineering as a course? I'm not very good with this but you can do Diplomas and NVQs in any college. Some even do HNCs which is equivalent of going to uni (I think?) All of them would be recognised in industry.Last edited by AndyJay123; 01-08-2012 at 22:58. -
